Giving Siri a voice was Ingenious and something I wish would have been introduced earlier.
Let me flip that around.

Releasing a product with siri but no voice was not a good move, I understand there were issues, but still it wasn't a good move

Does anybody know if you can purchase the series 3 with cellular capability- but not actually activate the cellular plan?

I like the idea of having the option, but don't want to be required to activate the plan

I don't think it will need a separate plan considering it will use the same number as your existing phone. When your watch is out of range of your phone that is when the tether free cellular capability kicks in.

There´s no option for a GPS-only S3 with a Stainless Steel Case.
if you don´t need Cellular you have to buy Aluminium... :-(

Yes The option to have GPS/WIFI is only available on the cheaper aluminum cases. That's why you would want to pick up a SS series2 at a huge discount.

Just save your money. The Watch isn’t all that useful and just nags you more than any thing.

The Watch isn't useful for YOU. For me, my watch is more valuable than my phone, by far.

I'm looking to get the cellular version, and ditch my phone (as much as I can)

Series 2 42 mm sport watch was $399. Series 3 same size is now $359 for the non cell version, so that's a nice price drop. I'll be getting one.

Only useful if there is a K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider voice option.....

Yup, stupid decision, especially as there is a £70 premium for the cellular (that I don't want)

Really? Having Siri from the watch read my text messages to me, answer my questions, set timers, etc won't be useful? When I use that feature on my phone already countless times each day....and now I can have my phone in my pocket or across the kitchen countertop and use the watch instead? None of that will be useful? Good to know. ;)

The back of the watch is rarely exposed

It's not the exposure that counts - it's the rubbing against your wrist. After a year, my series 0 was visibly cloudy from the scratches. I would not get a composite backed watch.

That said, it's a shame Apple didn't include a ceramic back on the S3 wifi. I'd either get a discounted S2, or a Cellular S3 and turn off cell connectivity.

You can get a S2 in the refurb store for $279...

But they downgrade from ceramic back to composite. I'd forego that. I'd go S2 closeout or S3 cellular and not turn on...

FWIW the cellular upgrade gets you 16GB ram over 8GB and the back is upgraded to ceramic Might just as well get the upgrades for the cellular and have better resale also just try any free months your carrier may offer to see if it makes sense for you.

i don't plan on selling it, when i buy a watch it gets used for several years. i'd use whatever watch i buy for probably minimum 3 years before upgrading.

Is version 2 and version 3 wifi the same? Thought V3 has a better battery life and better heart rate monitor? My job gives me $330 towards one. So a free 38 one.
