I actually once found a tiny bug trapped underneath the screen on one of my previous laptops, it was incredibly annoying because it was moving all the time so I squished it! Not having thought about the consequences it left a similar spot on the screen.. Believe me guys it's more annoying than you would think.

Give it a shot mate, they might replace it.

the degree of OCD on this forum is astonishing

I payed €700 for the phone. For that price I demand a perfect fit and finish. If we didn't complain about cosmetic defects QC would be totally up to ****. ;)

I haven't yet. I'm wondering if I should wait to do it just before the warranty runs out.

It's just that I hate the gamma on this screen. It's to low, I'd say it's around 1.8 instead of 2.2 which is what my old 4 had.

What would you do if you were me- I have a perfect white screen (ways better than my iPhone 4), zero dead pixels, perfect backlighting, BUT this speck of dust about 1cm above the Home- button and these very thin like hair-size two scratches, which are slight visible only at direct sunlight (they are under the glass)
Should I replace this unit, risking to get a worse one or perhaps a better...?

I doubt you'd notice that during normal use, as it's taken a blank, bright screen to show it up.

They'll replace it for you, although they could argue you won't see it during "normal operation", but you'll be looked at, glared at, sighed at, and basically mocked when you leave for being OCD.

I don't believe the OP is being OCD at all...You just paid for an Apple item that is supposed to be the best. If I put my hard earned money out there, then I would like to have the best of the best and perfection...If this was a 7 dollar item, I would still want it replaced...and if that speck of dust will drive you nuts, then get it replaced...

Oh no, trust me ... I've HAD the "you've got to be joking" looks from Genius Bar staff. That's why I told the OP!

I don't think its called OCD.
Based on most of the complaints I read on here, this is not OCD.
It does have a name, but I would probably receive a time-out for using that language as it might "offend" said people.

No, what it will do is make it harder and harder for people with legitimate claims to receive service.

If it annoys you I would swap it but there is that risk of getting a screen you might not like.

Now that I know that its there my gaze always gravitates to it.

Exactly, this isn't a €20 POS Nokia.

How is a spec of dirt in something that is supposed to be bonded not a legitimate claim?

I would use it for a few more days... sometimes it may go away ... hope it helps

I have shaken and thumped the phone but it will not budge.

The same thing happened with my new iPod Touch! It isn't that important but it just gets annoying sometimes when I am looking at pages with white backgrounds.

I have a spec of dust under the glass on my 4s. Decided to keep and not risk worse (i like my tint, battery, finish). This is also a replacement as my first phone was one of those white ones with visible chips on the bezel right out of the box (had to exchange).

My 4 had a loose button, my ipad1 has the same dust spec under the screen and i decided to keep them both anyways.

Yeah, if I was happy with the screen tint and battery I'd probably let it go.

My iPhone 4 had a wobbly home button that fixed itself and my iPad 2 has a slight light bleed but not noticeable under normal usage.

That happened to me with one of the older clear plastic cinema display - there was a tiny thunderfly wandering about inside the screen and, like an idiot, I squashed it, leaving a dead thunderfly trapped in my screen!

I called up Apple yesterday and have arranged an express replacement service.

The replacement phone (a new one, they showed the serial number on the email) is already on the way and I should get it today.

Still amazes me every time I deal with Apple the calibre of customer service and the speed and efficiency.:D

Any other problems? No dust anymore? How is the new tint?

hows the home button on it? mine is loose on my 4S

Very nice as was the one I just replaced. Flush with the glass, sold and has a nice springy action. On my old 4 it was wobbly when I got it but after a week it became solid.

good thing you got rid of that phone!
