I got a SS at launch and wore it every day until about a week ago. It looked almost new when I turned it in at Apple as a trade in for the ceramic. I would have gotten SS again but wanted to try the ceramic. I may get a SS in addition to keeping the ceramic if the next model has major improvements.

I’m interested in the ceramic model, which I know it’s slightly lighter under the stainless watch, but also extremely durable against scratches, which the stainless model will show, unless is the black stainless which is fairly resilient due to the DLC coating. The Only downside to the ceramic model, is I think the price is relatively high, but I’m sure it’s an exceptional product.

I have the ss series 0, and would get ss again. I'll wait though until the form factor changes (if the new watches just stays the same ill just keep using it). I only really use it to tell the time so not too bothered about performance, and like the way it still looks current.

As a stainless owner, you’re absolutely right. The 7000 series aluminum is extremely durable, and holds well up to scratches, scuffs and Dents. And I can Attest its not just with the Apple Watch, but even using the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7, which uses the same 7000 series aluminum, and both of those phones had no scratches whatsoever when owning them.

Absolutely. I’ve accidentally banged my watch into countless walls, tables, and countertops. Not a scratch, dent, or broken screen.

YES! I’m waiting for the 4 ( or my series 0 to die) I love the SS. I wear my watch every day. It’s worth it to me. I don’t buy a new watch every year.

I think the ceramic is actually heavier but once I started wearing the ceramic I really have not noticed a difference. I had no issues at all with my stainless. There were very light fine scratches that hardly showed up at all. I loved that watch but wanted something different and a little more luxe. I wore my SS for 3 years straight so if I do the same with the ceramic ... that's "just" $400 per year. ... my way of justifying it!! The ceramic is just a beautiful piece.

The 42MM Series 3 stainless Weighs in about 52.8 G, where as the 42 MM Ceramic is lighter at 46.4 G. Likely not enough to make a huge impact to notice the difference, but the Ceramic is lighter.

But like you said, you likely adjust to the weight fairly quickly, that was my experience with the stainless watch. I like the different color options as well with the Ceramic.

S1 SS AW to start. WHile I appreciate the SS and Saphire, I am more geek, and will replace every year. Now, for my $, new aluminum w/AppleCare each year.

I had an aluminum Series 0 and went stainless steel with the Series 3, mainly because of the sapphire glass. Through normal wear, the display on my S0 got a crack along the entire length of the round of the top edge. It was enough to feel it if you slid your finger across it. Having had both, the aluminum one is going to feel cheap if you decide to go that route. Since I waited that long to upgrade, the price difference was worth it to me.

This is the route I’ve taken, also.

Aluminum S0 to SS S3 LTE, which was my plan all along. I knew it wouldn’t be too long before I upgraded, although LTE came a little slower than I predicted.

I am loving everything about the SS; the heft, ceramic HR sensor, sapphire crystal (of course) AND Milanese Loop band.

Using my S0 as a sleep tracker now, too!

I upgraded from an SS S0 to an Alu S3 LTE.

The SS S0 felt like a replacement watch and not a fitness tracker.
The S3 LTE feels like a fitness tracker and not a watch replacement.

My opinion!

Perfect combo would be a titanium model (super light) with sapphire screen.

There wasn’t a scratch on my Series 0 in three years. No micro scratches...nothing.
same here

I went in the other direction from aluminum to SS but agree 100% with your assessment of the feel... I'd extend it further to say something similar in the looks department. The aluminum ones have a much more casual look to them. I do see plenty of them (and fitness trackers) in business work settings these days, though.

*Totally* agree on a titanium model with sapphire screen.

I have a S2 SS - I returned my S3 SS after 10 days because I was not using the LTE features. My plan is to get the S4 SS when they are released as long as they will use the same bands. I have over 15 bands so the new one will need to still use the previous series watch bands.

It’s almost certain that Apple is not going to change the band port assuming a Series 4 launches in the fall. It would be a horrible business practice at this point, especially since they just refreshed the bands back in March, I think that’s a good indicator they will retain the band port for this next generation of Apple Watch.

I’m a new SSBLK I would do it again in a heartbeat. Besides to me logic dictates seems like it would be going from a Porsche to a Volkswagen if bought an aluminum. If u can still afford it go with the SS

Porsche is Volkswagen.

I had a launch day S0 SS, and upgraded to a SS S3 in December. My S0 was in mint condition after 2.5 years of daily use (thanks to Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish) and I just didn't like the idea of not being able to remove scratches and nicks from an aluminum body ... no regrets! I'll most likely get another SS model in 2-3 years ...

I’m also someone that’s very particular, which that’s what I like about the stainless watch, that you can almost remove any micro scratches entirely off the casing with a polishing cloth or paste. And then my black stainless, still never had any scratches on it due to the DLC coating.

As an owner of the S0 SS with the link bracelet since launch, I still love this watch every bit today! Still works fine, runs the latest OS pretty well, and battery hasn't been that bad (lasts a full day).

I did get a S2 Apple Watch Edition in White, and while it looks and feels different to other Apple Watches, it's way harder to customize with bands. The Sport Band feels great but looks cheap and leather straps all come with SS lugs. The Edition is beautiful, but Apple needs to give us nicer white bands as well.

So funny enough, I wear the SS for more professional meetings, and the Edition is more casual.

I'm most certain I'll upgrade to S4, and it's going to be a SS model.

Wearing a Black aluminum Series 0 since the launch and I've got serveral scratches on the sides of the screen from banging into stuff (where I often started to think I'm physically challenged, can't understand how TF I ever banged it against the wall) and I'm 100% sure upgrading to the Series 4.
Was wondering if I should go for the SS version now and I must say this thread has convinced me. Guess I'll be throwing some more of my cash in Apple's direction. (then again, what's new...)

I'm torn on this as well. I really like the look of SS, and have it on my S0 that I'm wearing right now, but I also don't like the ugly red dot I'd be forced to have on the newer SS. Hopefully Apple abandons that dot with the redesign this autumn. I also feel like I might have to upgrade more often than I was hoping for a watch, so aluminum is appealing. I love how my SS watch face never gets scratched, but the sapphire is weaker and I have a small hairline crack along the side which isn't really visible unless you look closely and doesn't impact use. But it also means I have to be careful about getting it wet now. I'd love to see Apple have a sapphire laminated gorilla glass for the new series. I think they have a patent for something like that, or it was rumored or something recently for the iPhone.

The stainless model and ceramic model are considerably more expensive, and obviously it’s mainly aesthetics, but the Sapphire display if you’re concerned about scratches, is entirely worth it. It’s just a matter of how particular someone is about protecting the display, which eliminates the need without having to use a screen protector. Especially being how much our wrists hit things, I don’t want to look at any scratches on a 42 mm display. I would easily pay the additional premium again for the saphirre Over the Ion-X Glass.

Title pretty much says it all. I got the SS series 0 back when it first came out, and I'm still wearing it daily today. Still, dealing with the slow performance is pretty painful these days and I'm considering upgrading to the 4 when it comes out. The big question in my mind is whether I should go SS again, or go with aluminum this go around.

I got the SS the first go around because I wanted the durability of the sapphire glass, but I feel like I'm paying the price now because I just can't justify spending $600 every 1-2 years on a watch. So I figured I would ask here to see what others have done. If you owned the series 0 SS, would you buy SS again?
I went for the Nike Sport for my Series 3, and found I much prefer it. The Stainless S0 was a nice time piece, felt heavy and expensive, but was not optimal for workouts (my main use), and not nearly as comfortable. I got AppleCare on the S3 just in case the glass was weak, but I have had no problems with scratches or damage yet. I will definitely keep going with the sport, unless they make larger changes that warrant a second look.

if i can get 5yrs of useable life out of my current S0 and then get a S4 or S5 ... yes, I would go with SS definitely again. After daily wearing for 3+ yrs now it shows very little to no wear, scratches or dings.... banged it hard into door frames , door knobs and no issues whatsoever...

now for a watch which is to be replaced every 2-3 yrs ... the SS version is way too much $.

Apple Watch OS 5 won't support the Series 0, so I guess we now know the timeframe in which to replace it when wanting all the software-features...

I had a Series 0 SS and then a Series 2 SS both scratch free when I sold them on. I was going for a Series 3 SS before the devil on my shoulder told me to get a Series 3 Ceramic or he would boil my head.
I will definitely get a Series 4 SS or Ceramic when released
