I'm feeling more and more that a mere stretched 3.5" screen is an insult to Apple's customer base. I'm still holding out hope that this is an elaborate hoax.

Everyone was holding out for the tapered design last, hoping that the 4S was just to throw us of the scent, and look what happened.

No rational company would foist this on the public. Not that it's particularly horrible, but just that there's little point to it. And to hang an entire upgrade cycle on another row of icons is just... insulting.

I still can't fathom the reason for stretching the screen, especially since there's nothing in iOS6 to take advantage of it (ie no widgets). It's a terrible compromise that'll please nobody; those wanting the screen size kept the same will be upset that it was made bigger, while those wanting a bigger screen (myself included) will be disappointed they didn't make it proportionally bigger (ie wider) - It'll be the worst of both worlds.

If Apple continues with the current design elements I won't mind.

I think the steel and glass is miles ahead of everything in terms of aesthetics and build materials.

The Lumia 900, One x, and Xperia Ion, are also impressively designed phones.

16:9 or 16:10 just doesn't do it for me. Moving from my Droid to the OG, I loved the change of the aspect ratio to 3:2. I don't forsee me ever watching a HD movie on my phone when I have a 60' plasma to watch one on.

I am the opposite. I never liked the 3:2 aspect ratio, and I've been wanting an iPhone with a 16:9 screen for a while. I wished that when the original iPhone came out it had a 16:9 screen from the get go, like 640 x 360. Since that is exactly 1/4 of 1280 x 720, there wouldn't be much of issue changing to the latter resolution.

Having said this, I would not be in favor of changing the aspect ratio of the iPad screen to 16:9. 4:3 is fine.

Why dont you just wait and see what Apple unveils?

if its not for you dont buy it.

I remember when they unveiled the first iPad, I was really underwhelmed. However after a couple of generations I now have (and am very happy with) the ipad 3.

If the next iPhone is really nice I'll buy it, if not I'll go elsewhere and come back to apple when they release something I like.

Its really easy, you are not tied to anyone.

Get outta here with this "logical" stuff you are speaking of!! ;)

it's going to take some insane stuff under the hood and a "one last thing" to sell me on this design. I am hoping it's all a ruse.

I don't even mind if they want to use the iPhone 4 template again. But I'd want to see a screen size bump be proportionate. The stretched idea is still not sitting with me very well.

If they call it the iPhone 5... I won't buy it on principle... LOL

I am listed as a newbie because I haven't been on the forums until recently... but I have been coming to MacRumors at least every other day since right before the iPhone 3G... The first computer I purchased myself was a MacBook Pro for college. I now have a brand new MacBook Pro. (My first computer was a crappy HP my dad bought me for college, it lasted a week after the one year warrantly expired, I wanted the MacBook Pro from the start).

I have had every model of the iPhone, and even though I never thought I would need it, I ended up buying an iPad 2 (Which I now consider a great decision). So "newbie" does not mean anything...

In all seriousness, I will be disappointed if it is only taller, I don't want it to be 16x9 because I don't watch movies on my phone, I don't want a 5th row of apps either.... but that said... I will probably buy it anyway because I did not like Android when I tried it.
Hilarious considering iPhone 5 is now in your signature.

Seriously though I liked the iPhone 5, miss the black. I hate Space Gray.
