I would hope that apple would just have a bundle where if you get the iPhone 8 you can get the AirPods for $49 or $99 or something so that the people that already had them wouldn't be paying for them. Who knows though.

IF the iPhone 8 included AirPods, then Apple would bake them into the phone price somehow. So, no, I would not be mad.

Actually, if Apple started including Airpods with the 2017 iPhones and raised the cost consequently...that, I would have a problem with.

I have zero interest in the Airpods and would resent paying more money for a new phone just because they were packaged in.

In that case, better to leave them as an optional add-in as they are currently.

This was kinda the what if, in creating my post is if it's included to justify the overall higher price of iPhone 8 old. like starting at 1000 dollars or close to it

If it were regular price that means the 7s alongside would have to be cheaper than current 7 prices and I don't see that happening

Why should I be mad?
This is the paradox I have been observing amongst Apple consumers, back from the original iPhone. Whenever a company drop the price or bundle more things (ie. more storage, etc) on their products, usually consumers would've been happy. But not Apple consumers. They actually get mad(?) when Apple give more. It's hilarious.

What people should be mad about is the lightning port at the bottom of the stupid magic mouse.

In all likeliness, Apple will not include the AirPods with the release of the iPhone 8. This is Apple's proprietary newly released Bluetooth product with the W1 chip that they want their hands on and to absorb as much profit as possible on these.

Perhaps the first version of the AirPods could be included in future iPhone releases when the second version of the AirPods release. That seems more feasible to me, but as it stands now, with the restraints on the back order of 4/6 weeks still showing for delivery, I find difficult to believe this would happen within the next four months of the iPhone 8 release.

I would be very happy, as the Mrs would get a set for free. The Airpods are the best Apple product I currently own, better than my 2016 rMBP, iPhone 7+ or the iPad Pro's. I use them every single day, and would buy another pair if mine were lost.

Anything can happen.

But I don't see Apple bundling them in...it wouldn't be a wise move, but I'm not CEO of Apple. :D

Hell Yes! I paid nearly $200 for my AirPods. I already felt like they should have been bundled with iPhone 7 as they decided to remove the headphone jack for no reason.

I tried my buddy's Airpods, they are not bad, but the earpods from apple iphone sound quality is just as good, so no reason to ditch out $159 extra. That is just me

You guys forget it doesn't cost Apple anywhere near 160 to make them

Of Course not. What would you expect, Apple to charge the consumer what it would actually cost for them to manufacture the AirPods? They are company to make money and in order to do so, they have to factor manufacturing cost, shipping cost, cost of the packaging materials, etc., then they factor initial profit dividend after the fact what they set the product to be retailed at.

For example, it cost Apple proximately $2.50 to manufacture the Apple Watch Sport band with the exception of the packaging and shipping. Then they turn around and sell it for $50.00. Generating profit 101.

No business would ever charge what it cost to make them. If they did that company would quickly go out of business.

Yes, but we are talking about bundling it with the iPhone 8 which is how they are making their profit. Everyone in the comments is assuming the cost of the device would just go up by 160 because that's how much apple sells them as a standalone.

Well the earphones samsung cost are $99 to buy normally but it doesn't seem their price has increased much.

Definitely wouldn't be mad. Quite the opposite actually. I would love a spare pair of Air...Pods. So much rhyming.

As far as already spending the $160, I wouldn't have been enjoying them for the past year if I waited to get an iPhone that shipped with them (IF the next iPhone ships with them) so it's not like I would feel as if I wasted my money.

not going to happen but I have had them since day one and I wouldn't be the least bit upset. It just means that if/when I get the new iPhone (only if there is actually drastic changes because I tired of upgrading yearly with no apps that even push my phone) that i will have 2 sets of AirPods. Leave one at work and one at home or something. I am sure it is going to be that way in the near future anyway. Everyone will have a pile of old wireless headphones around the house instead of old wired headphones. I still find at least 1 pair of old wired headphones every time we move (we are military so we move a lot) and I don't even remember where they came from.

i keep my stuff in order, so i dont need "extra pair" for a drawer.

im quite sure they will have some kind of bundles with and without airpods... the more they can ship airpods to customers, then there are more people to loose them and they make more money for selling spare items. :D

but before they can sell bundles - they need to increase the production.

would i buy iphone with airpods? nope, until they are better.. the quality needs to be improved - especially the two way communication (call quality is awful) and they need a touch sensor to control e.g. the volume. i dont have apple watch, and not going buy a toy to replace my automatic watches. without apple watch you need to use 'siri the blond' or your phone. not quite practical solution.

i would rather buy iphone8 without them and get them when they are improved. however, im going to skip it if it has been changed significantly.

I don't think anybody is thinking that.

Regardless, Apple will do what it decides to do and the world will go on spinning.

As for me, it's still just a phone (along with whatever it is bundled with) at the end of the day. Just to keep it in perspective. :)

Give that for some reason apple just swap the $ for £ when releasing a new iPhone. Ignoring the exchange rate of rumours are true then the new iPhone will be £1000+.

That would mean basically a £400 increase. And I wouldn't even think about spending that on a phone. It is OMHO just too much. I don't care what's included in with it, especially not ear buds because I don't use them.

The 7 is £599 for base model. If the 8 is vastly more expensive then I will be looking at alternatives because I refuse to be gouged like that for a phone. £600 is expensive enough as it is.

I don't get mad. In fact considering how angry people get on these forums over the trivialist of IT issues, many of which wouldn't survive 5 minutes in my job.

Mad? No. But it would make more sense for them not to include earphones at all and just lower the price a bit. That said, if they do away with the lightning connector, maybe they would include them, but that doesn't look likely they will get rid of lightning this year based on the rumors. I mean, if they are going to include wireless charging and really embrace wireless for everything, why include the lightning port at all? It would also help with waterproofing the phone.
