If there were a larger (15 or 16 inch) MacBook Air available, would you want it?

I'd rather have M1 with bigger screen that last long than higher performer with less battery and more expensive.
I believe in a desktop, and 30" iMac with M1 Max and 15.6" MBA is my dream setup.

That makes sense, screen share to the iMac to run something heavy. It crazy that the larger screen has been reserved for "pros" for the lifespan of their line of laptops, maybe most laptops. It's bad enough the screen and keyboard have no separation or cannot be detached, creating terrible ergonomics, they want light users to crunch over tiny displays.

apparently apple has been considering launching a 15 air,but seems wont be for this year

i wonder what size the new mba m2 will be, 13.3 with thinner bezels and smaller body? or 14 with same body as current gen? id hope for the latter tbh

I'd like a smaller ~12 inch Air or MacBook with Magic keyboard, MagSafe, no fan and 1 usb-c on each side.
this described the 1370 MacBook air from 2010 except the fan an usb, so i like this idea.
we need the fans tho, my MacBook air would not boot this morning and was stuck trying to load.
if there was not fan the MacBook would have burnt on my wooden desk, and who knows what else.
everything is good now.

my MacBook air was whirling loudly and kinda warm an hour ago, not hot as as dangerous.
i think in 2015  made a MacBook without a fan, i was impressed and was considering buying one then.

The original 2015 MacBook was pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind a return to this with a M2 chip dropped in.

Yes I would -- in a heartbeat

But I didn't vote in the poll -- odd choices and none really fit

I don't want any of their laptops if not for a larger Air

I will be turning in a 15” MacBook Pro from my workplace in the near future and will be back in the market for a personal laptop. The M1X is complete overkill for my needs, but I would greatly prefer the larger screen. So yes, a 15-16” MacBook Air would be a personal sweet spot.

I would be very happy if the new MacBook Airs launched in March or April, and I would definitely go for a 15” size or so if it’s offered. I don’t need an overly powerful laptop, but the larger screen size would be really nice.

I did some math recently when I was bored and the ideal (but unlikely) scenario in my opinion is this:

13.2” MacBook - 2816x1834 - 2.6lbs
15.2” MacBook - 3232x2094 - 3.4-3.5lbs

This assumes identical bezels/chin/notch/aspect ratio to the new Pros. To estimate the weight I’ve just assumed the same density as the current MacBook Air and adjusted for the physical footprint.

Obviously, this makes the footprint of the 15.2” exactly halfway between the 14.2” and 16.2” Pros, but with Air density it is (near as makes no difference) the weight of the 14” Pro, which I think is ideal because you have a choice between screen size/battery life or performance/ports at the same weight.

The 13.2” footprint falls fairly close to halfway between the 12” MacBook and the current Air, which I think would satisfy some people who miss the 12” MacBook without really being any less practical than the current 13.3” (you lose a little width but gain a little height).

I absolutely do not think this will happen, but if it hypothetically did, I’d say that lineup would look something like this:

MacBook Air (M1) - $999

MacBook 13” (M2) - $1,199
MacBook 15” (M2) - $1,399

MacBook Pro 14” - $1,999
MacBook Pro 16” - $2,499

The thing I like about this scenario is that a 15” consumer model adds a more interesting middle option between the 13” MacBooks and the MacBook Pros than an entry-level MacBook Pro does.

I’d like to see a 13 inch that weighs around 2 pounds, and a 15 inch that weighs around 3-4. I don’t need the power of the MBPs. Though I would like to see 32gb ram as an option.

what Id really like to see, tho, is a 12.9 hybrid, capable of running both MacOS and iPadOS, where the screen is detachable so you can use it as a standalone IPad.

You wouldn't get all those ports in the 12" MacBook size. Its keyboard stretched to the edges which means that the required depth for ports is between the keyboard and the screen. On the MB12, that was one USBC and the headphone jack so to get a second USB-C the headphone jack would need to go.

If there were a larger (15 or 16 inch) MacBook Air available with the same specs as the smaller MacBook Air, would you consider buying it instead of an existing machine?
Absolutely. I would buy a 16" MB Air in a second. Don't need the power of a Pro or Max, but I do need screen real estate. My home setup is 2x32" 4k monitors, plus a 24" 1920x1080, driven by a clamshell 2019 16" MBP. (Yeah, I'd probably have the get a mini or something.)

I did get a 13" when the 2012 came out and since almost NEVER touched any of my other portable Macs which range from 12" to 17". I got another MBA and this time went for the 11". I can't put it down.

Since the iPad came out with the A4, I had a dream that some day MBA's would be COMPLETELY solid state, meaning it wouldn't even have a moving fan yet have the power curves that the A4 promised (adjusted over time). I also imagined it would have no vent holes at all and the iPhone 4 made me want a retina display.

2020. MacBook Air now has Apple silicon, no moving parts, reduced ports, retina display, previously inconceivable battery life, TouchID, time-aligned spatial audio is just a bonus, oh and they managed the form-factor of the 11" but with a 13" display.

I've patiently held-out for TEN YEARS, now I can't say NO. Apple really made the perfect ultra-portable that will last me another 10-years.

I'm nuts about my 11" MBA and 12" PowerBook G4 I once had. Why do I love ultra portables? Because it can be whatever you want it to be. It's essentially a Mac Mini on the go. Same power, same BYODKM functionality. I could use an M1 Air on the plane to edit and render footage without any compromise. When I get home, I can plug it ANY size 6k display and a sound system and use a wireless keyboard and trackpad while tucking the MBA away where it can't be seen.

My tiny book does it all. It goes from the smallest lightest full-powered portable (approaching the previous year's Mac Pro in some measures) to a tidy, hidden hub for a seamless workflow at my dedicated work station. A larger display would compromise the first function.

So why am I OK with 13"? Because they fit it into the same footprint of my 11", which is my favorite form-factor ever. :)

These two, along with the G4 Cube, are my favorite Macs of all time. (Just barely edging out the SE/30 and PowerBook Wallstreet, which were both great for their time.)

Personally, I’m not content with the 13”. Apple has shown that they can fit the hardware in an iPad Pro, so I would really like a 10” or 11” Mac.
