welp its going back.

ports are beat up, especially the magsafe - clear signs of use and not what id expect from apple even for a refurb. also has a couple tiny nicks on the topcase.

now i either buy a new one from bh or just keep my 2010. not a fan of bh's unfriendly return policy.

Was this really direct from Apple's site refurbished page? I have never heard of one not coming in pristine condition.

Of course, reseller do their own "refurbishment" which often consists of rewrapping something in plastic

Yes. It was ordered directly from Apple's own refurbished site. Apple Certified Refurbished. I returned it to the store today.

[doublepost=1542771311][/doublepost]Owner of a maxed out 15” 2015 mbp. Bought it after the 2016 announcement as well as others I know.

This machine is outstanding. My work provided us with newer versions, so I was going to sell this. Ended up sending that 2017 back (keyboard failed), so I am just using mine. I travel a lot and need to do Webex along with requirements to plug into different ports onsite. Glad I kept this. AppleCare plus to 2020 give me piece of mind as well. OP, it’s a great machine. I run VMware, Webex, HipChat, jabber, office suite, ms project, etc all day every day- smooth as silk.

Thanks, I'm not really sure what to do now. I did send Apple an email just to show them the picture and let them know, and to ask if that was to be expected on a refurb MBP, which I think we all know it really isn't, not one from Apple direct anyway. Naturally I don't really want to order another one from Apple, which really only leaves me with ordering an actual brand new new one from BHphoto but their return policy sucks - opened computers are non-returnable unless there's a defect, but what's a defect to me they might not agree with, at which point I'd be subject to a hefty restocking fee, and I have to pay return shipping on my own. Rigid policies like that don't really make me want to do business with them, so I might get stuck returning all the accessories I bought and just keeping my 2010 in service.

I have a late-2013 15" MacBook Pro that I wouldn't trade for a new one. I like having all the ports. The only thing I really need to do is change the battery and it would be the perfect laptop.

I would not buy a "new" Macbook from 2015 for two reasons. One, the cost seems a little high. Two, I would be concerned about the battery inside. It has been dead for years. This is not a good thing for lithium batteries, from what I understand. The key question here is this -- would manufacturer's warranty apply?

You know, I think it would. If so, Apple would swap the battery if there was problem. Still, price seems high.

Not quite for 3 years, but yes, even if it had been new/unused, they stopped producing these in June (at the latest) so it'll have been sat in a warehouse or store for at least 6 months by this point which can't be especially good for it. A refurb or used machine is therefore potentially a better buy now for this reason.

Ah, excellent point. I stand corrected. The model year may be 2015, but that does not mean an equivalent production year... It could be much newer and likely is newer since it's a left over, right? That was a Homer moment for me. Doh! :D:D:D

Wow - I've literally never seen or heard of such a thing from Apple Refurb direct..

God I hope they aren't penny pinching and screwing that up now also..

yep lol it could have easily been made back in 2017

Not to say that I like the new keyboards, but what on earth will happen to silicone? It's a pretty stable chemical product

So with a 2018 keyboard your chances are less likely to have problems ? I'm asking is all. I'd like to upgrade to a 15" but the 2015 Refubs are out of stock and honestly have to agree very expensive. I have a 2017 15" MBP on the way from refurbished but with all this "TALK" of keyboard issue's it's concerning for what you pay. This is Sad on Apples part.

I have a choice of refurb 2015s today: 2.8 Ghz/AMD 256 GB or 512 GB. $1,100 for the 156 and $1,200 for the 512 GB. They are both in very good shape but the 512 has a ding. But I'll decide when I get to the shop. The 2015s are still available online but are very expensive. You can get refurb'd corporate systems for less.

Are you selling
2015 15 inch MacBook Pro 2.5 Ghz, AMD Graphics, 512 GB SSD? Price? Battery Cycles?

I don't know what I'm going to do. I'll have three systems and decide what to do with them. I'm more inclined to sell the 2014 as I like the 2015 better. My 2014 is a lot cleaner as the 2015 has a few dings but the performance difference between the 2014 and 2015 is noticeable.

If you could get either of these configurations, new (not refurbs), sealed in box, would you?

2.2 GHz i7
16 GB RAM (1600 MHz DDR3L)
256 SSD
(I think this model only has integrated graphics?)
$1799

2.5 GHz i7
16 GB RAM (1600 MHz DDR3L)
512 SSD
(I think this model has a dedicated graphics card?)
$2299

Would you? The mid-2015 is considered by many to be the best Macbook Pro built due to the keyboard and ports. I'm all for moving on in terms of ports so that part doesn't really matter to me, and if Apple could get their **** together and deliver a machine without any known issues at time of initial purchase (keyboards), I don't think I'd even ask this question since I could probably deal with the tactile feel of the new keyboards. But here we are.
I would in a heartbeat, but not for $1800 and $2300. Knock $500-$800 off these prices and I'm in. The 2015 MBP's were the best Apple ever offered, IMO. I own one right now and use it everyday. Love the thing!

New in a box? No. I could find that model in very good condition for probably $1,000. Maybe $800 with some dents and dings. One of my current systems has the 2.5 and the Discrete graphics and I paid $1,123 for it. It has a ding in one corner and some scratches on the bottom and it did come with a 90 day warranty. Would you save $700 for a ding or two and some scratches? You could just put on a case and never see them.

Bait and Switch - they gave me a 2.5 and I found out about it when I got back to the office. I'm returning it tomorrow. I hate this sort of thing.

After much thought on getting a 2018 MBP, and even ordering a BTO 13” with 16gb RAM, and cancelling after more thought, I picked up a used 2015 15” 2.8GHz integrated graphics in perfect boxed like-new condition (only 13 recycles on the battery) for about $1,000. So, for the prices you’ve mentioned, it seems a bit high, unless you value the option of APPLECARE and a few more years of peace of mind.

One thing mentioned here about potential battery problems sitting being from 2015, is that not all 2015s were made that long ago. Mine was made just this last year at the end of their production. So that and the low recycle rate, I’m not worry about any battery issues.

The 2015 may be ‘old tech,’ but for my use will be fine, much better than the MBP 2011 it replaced. It’s still plenty fast enough unless you are doing high end graphic/video work, and then you just have to decide if your time and computer processing time ratio is to your advantage for the price. The 2018 could be a good choice of course, but for me the advantages of port selection, great keyboard, and still excellent display, outweigh the future worries of the newer models. For the price savings, and for a few more years till Apple fixes the dependability issues and makes a leap in performance... it was a ‘no brainer.’
