thank you, you were more helpful than the 5 people i talked to on the phone. they also said i couldnt buy a refurb. but its right there on the premier site. why do you think they told me that?

B/c the people on the phone really don’t have a clue.....I bought my iphones, referbs, from the Premier site and I was not even supposed to be able to upgrade what I already had....just buy it and don’t worry about the people on the phone...edit...I stand corrected per Dave...your contract will change, your upgrade eligibility will not.

i dont expect my contract date to change either.... it better not, i'm paying the premier full price for the refurb (299). att makes everything iphone related really confusing for no reason at all.

I know, but we are not "supposed" to be able to get refurbished iPhones on premier since we are not eligible for an upgrade....this is what I was told by two managers before I bought mine on Premier  and i was told that buying the iPhone means signing a new two year contract, it even states it there online....again...

They can't offer you the refurbished iPhone 3G over the phone. It is currently only available Online for new customers, customers adding a line, and Premier(FAN) customers (you) that have it listed in their Premier Device list.

There are many offers that are only available "Online" throught the Premier site. Just to be clear, not all of the Premier offers are the best possible price but in this case for the iPhone 3G it is the best pricing available.

Your contract will change! It will restart a new two-year service agreement as of the date your refurbished iPhone 3G is activated by AT&T.

You are not paying "full" price. AT&T currently does not offer the iPhone 3G at a "No Commitment" price. If they did the pricing they have suggested is $599 (8GB) / $699 (16GB).

Your contract did change as you are required to get a new two-year service agreement and you agreed to it when you purchased the refurbished iPhone 3G via Premier.

Note: Your upgrade eligiblity will not be affected by your purchase of the refurbished iPhone 3G even though you are signing a new two-year contract. If you purchase the "non-refurbished" iPhone then your upgrade eligiblity will be reset as you are using it for the subsidy or early upgrade.

I did not know that. I was told by ATT that if you resign a contract that your eligibility changes also....I just looked and you are right, my contract date DID change, but my eligibility stayed the same.

Tell me, why did the people on the phone say that "I" could not upgrade to a referbished iPhone or even purchase one since i was not eligible for an upgrade, yet i was able to on premier?

this is all really confusing.

say i buy the 16gb refurb.

will my contract date change. yes no?

Sorry, according to dave (and now looking online and seeing my account), yes, your date will change. your upgrade eligibility date will not.

thats fine i dont care about that. i just dont want any *extra charges* to show up because i bought a replacement phone on the premier site.

they better not charge me to activate this phone. will they?

I have purchased multiple refurbished phones from the Premier website and all of them have been in phenomenal condition, outside of the packaging I would never have known that they were refurbished. Each purchase did bump my contract out another 2 years though.

??? what are the terms of your FAN?
A normal Premier purchase would require an $18 Activation Upgrade fee, why should you be treated special, AT&T did not steal your phone?

Some FANs have a clause that "New" Activation fees are waived, the $36 fee but most FANs don't provide a discount on "Upgrade" Activations $18. You can always call into Customer Care and ask for it to be waived. Your success will vary by rep and the way you ask.

My FAN for example waives the activation fee on the primary line but not on an secondary lines.

i know my FAN account waives the activation fee for my line ( only line i have) but would it be waived again for my replacement phone?

this is confusing btw.. lol

My FAN waives ALL activation fee's, even those on "upgrade" :D

Well the only way to know is to check the specific terms of your group's FAN. Please note that there is a difference between "New Activations" and "Upgrade Activations".

If you are ordering a refurbished iPhone 3G for use on an existing line, then it would be an "Upgrade Activation" and the terms of your FAN will determine if you pay any activation fee.

Dave

how come when ordering online it asks me for my ss#? for a credit check? i already have an att account. shouldnt they have this information already?

also. att keeps saying im not able to order a refurb online when i actually am able to. has anyone bought the refurbs online before to replace a lost or stolen iphone?

Refurb, new; it's all the same to me. v1 iPhone was replaced by a refurb and the refurb was better than the new iPhone. My 3G iPhone needed replacing and ended up with a NIB iPhone replacement. Refurbs are awesome...

ok i finally got it all resolved.

contract will be bumped. no extra fee to activate my new phone to my old number. and i get to save money on my replacement. all is good.

I may buy a refurb iphone but I'd definitely never buy a used iphone. I know what I do with mine and where I use it and touching someone else's would just be disgusting. ;)

Someone could make a lot of money selling iphone sanitizers.

Glad to hear that you finally pulled the trigger on the purchase of the refurb iPhone 3G. Let us know if it meets your expectations when it arrives. Just double check your first bill to make sure the Upgrade Activation fee of $18 is not included.

ive already been an iphone 3g user since july 11th :) but unfortunately i had my iphone stolen from me, i was mugged, it sucks but i got over it. thats why i posted here because getting a replacement is really confusing since there is no insurance or anything for iphones which sucks. the person on the phone reassured me that since i have a premier account i can only purchase a refurb online for 299. and my contract will be extended from the date i bought it

when i get my phone and i want to activate it to my same number that i had what do i do?
