My mom doesn't use internet on her phone. The only thing he uses is the GPS, which would be better to have it on the phone (currently uses an old Garmin)..
I'll buy one for my mom's b'day (if Steve show's up with one at macworld 09').

Incidentally, I know kids, teenagers, young adults and cool downtown hipsters who also don't use internet on their phone.

iPhone Nano confirmed.

Nano I would believe, they need a mass market phone for non smart phones. Shuffle!? I don't see that picture as real and are you going to dial random numbers?

i think you should change the name of the thread to: If you don't have an iphone would you buy an iphone nano, because of course people who already haven an iphone wouldn't want to buy a nano.

I have an iphone 2G and would consider a nano. Depends on how well it's done.

Apple is not going to make a regular (non-smart) phone. They are not interested in that market. They are all about selling the OS to people, and OS on a regular cell phone is pretty much irrelevant as long as making calls and sending sms is straight forward. If an iphone nano does come out, it will be able to do all of the thing the current iphone can do - it will just have a smaller form factor.

even tho i voted no, I htink if it's very well made and does teh same as the iphone 3g (which i dont see what the reason for making a nano would be then maybe, not now tho, that's why i clicked no, maybe when my 2g dies out on me

Yes, but given the economic situation we are under. Apple can help eliminate the AT&T/Rogers Data plan contract by eliminating the internet feature (Still keeping EDGE, Wi-Fi and Safari) which the customers have a choice of a data plan or not and they can lock their carrier internet service. This way, iPhone would still retain its Mac OS X. Certain features like GPS can be eliminated, therefore they ARE STILL about selling OS to people.

Why would we have such nice, wonderful features taken away from us?

Why would you lose features, Have I missed the rumour that the iPhod Nano is going to replace the Normal iPhone

Perhaps I need to watch out next time the Nano gets updated, Apple might abandon all other iPods

I don't see the point in a small iPhone as the current one is effectively the smallest form factor. Plus making it smaller does not necessarily mean you can make it cheaper!

In our theory, we think Apple is about to release a cheaper iPhone that does not work like the iPhone 3G. It would eliminate the data plans and we can block off our internet access like normal phones. The iPhone is smartphone sized, a little bit of 1.5x the size of normal phones and it may just work fine (Keeping the horizontal size of the current iPhone to tackle the keyboard issue). Making it smaller and cheaper was demonstrated by the iPod Nano and Mini so I believe that iPhone Nano could be made.

defos.
it'll be cheaper, nicer, and as cool as an iphone. why not?

+1 to that. Why would we have such nice, wonderful features taken away from us?

 Comments like this continue to astound me with their idiocy. Releasing an iPhone nano would not "taking away" features from the regular iPhone. It would be adding another model, with less features, to the lineup. If you want all your regular iPhone features, you buy the iPhone. If you want a smaller/cheaper/simpler iPhone, you buy a nano.

Wow, finally someone with logic :D

Of course I'm kidding. The nano rumor is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I see.

Agree with you about the Nano. Doesn't make sense to me because the interface is a touch one. Much smaller, and it would be hard to use I would think. Guess we'll know soon enough.

Obviously it was a joke, those pictures are as old as the iPhone itself.
Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing those before.

I personally would not buy an iPhone Nano, I am perfectly content with my iPhone 3G. I do see the market for a cheaper iPhone especially if Apple could get it to the $49-99 price range.

What does the OS have to do with anything? It's not like people are going to go, "oh wow, so this is what it is like to use a Mac...". The only reason they would have to try and "sell" the OS is if they wanted it to be used on other smart-phones, which seems unlikely.

Why wouldn't Apple want into the regular cell phone market? They entered the cellular market, it's really the next logical step.

I bet they pass emails and stuff around at Apple about all the rumors and get a real laugh out of them.

Tim: Dude, Steve, they think the Nano is basically gonna be a stubby, fully functional iPhone!

Steve: LMAO!!!

This is precisely why I think Apple would want the nano to use the OS. It's very expensive to develop an OS, and it makes little practical sense for Apple to make a new product only to have to develop a comparable operating system. "Oh but the nano iPod uses a different OS." Right... but that one was developed before the iPhone/iPod touch OS existed, and so of course it will still be used where appropriate. But why would Apple make a small device, mostly useless, and very much like every other regular phone, that requires a new OS? Seriously, why?
