Why would that piss me off? :) You seem to be sooo excited that you can actually afford a computer that you think other people will be pissed about that. This must be a rare occasion for you :)

I wasn't even writing about that. I just posed a logical question. Isn't wi-fi for mobile devices that you actually can move around? Or am I missing something.

Hello everyone..

I see many here or at list most of the ppl are planing to get it. I for one was waiting for new MAC PRO since the summer of last year which is a long, long time. I already needed new PC/MAC at the time bad for my work in 3D animation, Maya and Mentalray/RenderMan renders...

You have no idea how disappointed i am with new MAC PROs :(
1. Where is 3.2ghz cpu ?
2. I hope we all understand that its waaaay overpriced.

Dont get me wrong i need new system and $$$ is not an issue. I just want to get more or as much as possible from my benjamins and Apple did not convinced me at the moment with they're new line of MacPro's.

ManukM, why do you need blueray media?

EDIT; "damn things" refer to HDCP Blu-Ray media.

well, if you shoot in HD and edit in HD, isn't it only natural to have the final product in HD too? Otherwise, what's the point of investing in HD cameras if your customers are gonna watch their videos in SD?

Over priced compared to what? Please link me to some other manufacturers prices. If you want top of the line and can't afford it... well then Apple can't help you with that buddy.

Power when (and where) you need it.
The new Mac Pro introduces Turbo Boost: a dynamic performance technology that automatically boosts the processor clock speed based on workload. If you’re using an application that doesn’t need every core, Turbo Boost shuts off the idle cores while simultaneously increasing the speed of the active ones, up to 3.33GHz on a 2.93GHz Mac Pro.

Funny that's pretty much exactly like my story except I use Softimage.

Yeah this tends to happen when apple changes architecture I remember the first Mac Book Pros where horrible value considering what you were getting. But I need this.

I do not agree with no 2 towards the upper range of pricing (for the other end the you are probably right but higher end i expected high pricing)

and for 1 i believe the 2.93ghz features somethin called turbo boost which lets it self overclock to around 3.33ghz "Power when (and where) you need it.

Hey you right... I just checked BOXX and those guys are charging even more then APPLE :) I guess the only way system like this will be cheeper if i just build it my self.. But then i cant argue about the price difference between system from Apple and the one i would build my self. Self build workstation would cost less, for sure :)

Yes you are definitely missing something. That I agree with completely.

You're hilarious. Enjoy your new Mac and the happiness it has brought in your life. Hopefully your goal of pissing off people by the fact that you can afford a computer will be fulfilled :)

Hate to say "you should wait a little longer", but wait for some benchmarks to figure out its actual value. EDIT - not being elitest, but that's what I go off of.

Heh. Point. However, I don't exactly like an editing machine as something to authour a large number of discs with. My projects go to the web in SD, but shooting, editing and archiving is HD. You're right with DVDs not cutting it for HD, but I would rather have a PC with several authoring drives to burn replica HD media instead of taxing my editing/render machine. It could handle the two simultanious burns, yes, but if I want to take the plunge off of the deep end, I'll get a PC and cross-platform burning warez and four or five authouring drives.

That's just my opinion, though. lol, I don't even run widgets in OSX on the school's MacPro b/c I'm concerned with their CPU consumption, which I know is nill, but when capturing to RAID in HD and when rendering, I get all sorts of paranoid.

Dr. Pants, you're right. It all depends where your end product goes to. SD is just fine for the web. My end product is watched on HDTVs. So blu-ray is the only option for me.

There you go! That's the "clever" come back I was waiting for. Now go to the kids' forum while the adults are engaged in mature discussions.

Perhaps you are just a slow adult... "I just don't understand why you need WiFi in a desktop... I just don't understand. The computer is not moving I just don't understand."

Now what iq level does it take to envision a few scenarios where WiFi would come in handy? Then you actually expect sentient human beings to respond to your nana gibberish with logic. No Sir... I refuse to share any sentiency with folks such as yourself.

If you were to hand me out $4000.00 I would probably sit on it for a month or two and think about what I needed most, guitar stuff or new Mac etc.

So a maybe maybe not.

I have Wi-Fi because of the layout of my house I was never willing to go through the effort of getting ethernet wiring to where I have my Mac. If I were to arrange to have my DSL come into that room, I would still need Wi-Fi to get it connected with my older Linux box in the other room.

On the other hand, since I bought the 5GHz supporting 802.11n router, the Wi-Fi connection has been nice and stable.

This is NOT a work computer.

Or a beautiful escort and a new mini? You get the 'pro' for the night and keep your mini for your alone time. Perfect!

I don't believe my question was so outrageous that it didn't deserve a respectful response. Why the hostility, man? All I did was ask a simple question, received a couple of reasonable and civil answers from others, but all I got from you was an attitude I could find at a school playground. And in your rant about iq levels and envisioning scenarios I don't see any intelligence coming through and showing your own knowledge. The most obvious benefit of not dealing with wires seems to be the only reason for wi-fi for fixed machines right now. I thought there would be something more to it than that when I asked that question. Since I'm not claiming to know everything about computers and technology in general, like someone incredibly arrogant who talks about IQ's in a forum like this would, I expected to find some insights here. You're welcome to shock me with your intelligence and list a few of those scenarios you claim to know so well. If you don't know, people come to places like this ask questions and learn.

I'd buy one, though I'm still waiting to see about power connectors for the graphics card. I want more gaming power.

Same as the '08 model. 2x 6 pin PCIe power connectors on the logic board, so it's still limited as to the number of certain graphics cards. It won't be able to use say (2x) HD 4870's. Only enough sockets to run one of them, unless you can find another source for power. Pulling off optical bays isn't realistic, so hacking a separate PSU may be the only route.

Lets say I was to hand everyone $4000 and said buy what ever you want! who would purchase the new mac pro?

I wouldn't! anyone else?

Second question Who would buy the new mac pro without the hand out?

Well, I just ordered the low end Mac Pro with ATI card and 24" Cinema display. This is my first apple product outside of the iPod Touch that I have bought.

Have tested OSX on a Hackintosh and liked it so much I decided to move.

Just hope I don't regret my decision! :D

Where are the support documents with the internal information like that? Are they posted yet?
