Would You Ever Switch To Android?

I've had every iPhone released but I've also tried some Androids over the years at the same time.

I've used these for a few weeks each, normally around the time I get bored for a bit

Galaxy Nexus
Nexus 5
Nexus 5A
Pixel
Pixel 2
Pixel 3
Pixel 4
Galaxy S9
Galaxy S10

And they were all great phones but the simple fact is I found myself looking for the same version of Apple features on Android and being disappointed or annoyed at the lack of or lame versions of the same features.

Apple gave us USEFUL things we didn't know we even needed like Airdrop, apple watch, app shortcuts, peek and pop, media controls in control centre, face ID, touch ID, portrait mode, retina display etc

Android followed most of these things later but it never felt as well done as iPhone, Android 11 is as close to iOS as you could get right now and an Android version of Airdrop is here called nearby sharing, continuity and phone access is coming soon as well to chromeOS so the features are coming.

At one point the iPhone design and camera did drop behind Android OEMs and Pixel cameras around the iPhone 6S/7 era but the X lead the way again with its design and the 11 blew away the cameras.

Google are apparently working on their own ARM chips for Pixel and a Pixel Watch so it's possible that might be the time to make the switch for me, the issue I have is will the 12 Pro be worth another 1000+ this year or will a Pixel 5 with a SD 765G at $500-600 be better value if the camera is fantastic, battery is good, Pixel watch is released and Android 11 is stable.

If people think the iPhone 12 5.4" is starting at $650 they're insane, Apple will never do that and it'll be another $699 for 64GB.

I don't mind Android that much... particularly the less cluttered versions, but I do mind that a combination of Android + third party watch + windows X + blabla is quite a lot less advanced than Apple's proposition ATM as far as the ecosystem of interconnected augmentation tools goes, and is likely to remain behind for a long while.

I'm thinking about making the switch but the other way around. I've only had androids starting with the original Motorola droid up to my current Note 10+. I've never had an Apple phone but almost bought an iPhone 4. I had it in my hand and almost bought it but for some reason I just couldn't.

I've seen the new features coming to iOS 14 and it has me interested again. I may skip the new note this year and go with the 12 pro max.

I already know I'm going to skip the Note 20 - my Note 10+ does everything I need it to do. I may get one of the iPhone 12 series if the specs and 5G make it a big upgrade over the 11.

Nope. Don’t care what the competition has. Hardware might be nice but the software is a dumpster fire. Then there are some privacy concerns..

I had the Galaxy S3 years ago. Loved it but I had to replace it twice in a year and a half because they would just die. After the 2nd time I was done with Android and went running back to Apple.

Then I decided to give Samsung a 2nd chance with the Note 7 I believe. I had to return it after a week because of the exploding phone recall lol So yeah, I haven’t had good luck with Android.

They both do pretty much the same crap. So it really boils down to the ease of having all my Apple devices synced together. My MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone, Apple Watch, and airpods all work well together. I’m all in lol

I decided to spare myself the inevitable pain this year and not get an Android phone. It’s the same pattern every time. I use it for a few weeks and then the novelty wears off. I goes in a drawer until I admit defeat and sell it.

I'm with you. I never wind up keeping Android devices in circulation. I have own several and I have never used one for more than a 8 months.

I still said "Will/have" because ultimately, I won't rule anything out. Apple could totally go to hell, but we're nowhere near that at this point.

I’m impressed thought you would get tempted by the note 20 ultra lol

At this point IOS and Android are more alike than different. But for me its about the ecosystem. I have an iPad and MacBook. its just nice that I can continue conversations on the iPad or even text from it.

It comes down to how things work together. Apple does it better.

I switched to Android a few years ago. It was nice but I really hated Android Auto, so I switched back. Car Play just looks nicer, and they actually showed durations on podcasts rather than an old fashioned line. I think AA updated it finally but by then it was too late. Now I have the apple watch and I also have the Apple TV 4K. I don't really see myself switching back, especially since I do have the Apple Watch.

I’ve had every single iPhone and never used an android but recently the one plus 8 and the s20 really seem tempting, has anyone switched and regretted it or loved it ? My main concern is iMessage which i use with my kids .

I switched in May of 2019. Went to a Google Pixel 3a XL.

I got tired of waiting for Apple to release an iPhone that didn't have a camera bump that got bigger and uglier at every release from the 6s on. My previous phone is an iPhone 6s (I still have it).

Android is neither here nor there for me. I don't use enough of it to really like it or hate it. But, I'm also on stock Android (which is why I chose the Pixel) so I'm not dealing with any manufacturer mods to the OS.

I still have Macs and I still have older iPhones and a 6th Gen iPad. When my Pixel is finally paid off, I'l probably go back to the iPhone though. I'm hoping that sometime between now and the end of 2021 Apple will have a model I actually like.

How about refresh rates ? Does the 120/90 on androids make a big difference vs the 11 pro ?

I've got a Samdung Galaxy S7 running Oreo. I needed an Android phone for a specific side loaded app to program a motor controller wirelessly.
While I never use that phone for anything but setting parameters on the controller, I gotta say that Android in that incarnation is really really lame.

Not at all. I’ve played with a couple of phones that belong to guys I work with.. no interest at all. But it’s pretty cool that you can torrent right from your phone.
