I would just use it. Aluminum is rather soft and my new iPad 2 had some small chips around the border.

It may get damaged after months or years of use, but no way am I paying nearly $900 for something that's damaged before I even take it out of the box.

It's hard to get good pics of it. Imagine if you took a small flathead screwdriver and dug into the corner of it one good time. That's exactly what it looks like. It's very deep, all the way to another "layer" under the aluminum, which appears darker in color.
 
I returned my first iPad because of some really chips on the case. The second one still has a scratch, but it's much smaller. The screen however is perfect from what I can see and I don't want end up in a vicious exchanging cycle because the next one has a bad screen or even worse case damage. Sure, it bugs me a little but I'm sure I'll get over it eventually.
