I don't use it enough for it to even make a difference. I think I would think about it if I used it for a GPS in my car or something but I have a GPS device I use and thus could care less. :)

Maybe if I lost my job and couldn't pay the bills I'd go back to a 4, other than that, why settle for second best?

There are so many alternatives to Google Maps.

I've always used waze for turn by turn which is extremely accurate so it is not really a big deal.

No because:

1. The 5 hardware is pretty good and better than 4S
2. With the 4S you would have iOS6 anyway...

My gf bought a new 4S (from Best Buy) the day before the 5 came out (I have a white 32gb 5, love it) and it came with 5.1.1 on it (quickly jailbroke and saved hashes). Could obviously be YMMV but not everyone will have upgraded them to 6.0 yet.

Just got my iPhone 5, upgraded from the 4 (not 4s). So everything seems super fast and much better, HOWEVER, I wish I waited and maybe just kept it in the box a while longer till Google gets their version available on iOS.

I really need the color coded traffic freeway lanes. With a quick glance, I was able to pick my route to work. This was the big advantage my iPhone had over the Garmin GPS I have in my car. Now on IOS 6, all lanes are orange and I just have notifications of accidents but I need to know how that affects traffic.

Anyone else have thoughts or second thoughts about going back or not upgrading because of the lack of Google Maps?

I personally would not even think twice about going back.

The iPhone 5 has some major hardware benefits that old software just can't come close to matching.

Google will submit their own app soon and in the meantime simply use your browser to go to maps.google.com.

My own experience with the new Apple mapping technology has been nearly flawless. There are a couple of incorrect points of interest in my area and I'm confident they'll be fixed shortly.

And I have a choice. Navigon is decent, Waze is stellar. And when Google releases their app that will be nice too.

Apple's departure from Google is a positive development for consumers because it forces everybody to try harder to make the best product for us.

Yes, temporarily.
My 5 is unlocked, but I'll be leaving it at home for my trip to Japan.
Taking the 4 instead so I have public transport maps, which work vey well there.

Heck no, I use navigon for navigation and Hopstop for the NYC transit directions. Google maps was nice though, I will admit but I can live without it.
