I know this topic's been covered before.. but I wonder, outta all the members here, has anyone actually had their pride and joy etched?

I was browsing through flickr just now... and I kinda fancy having mine done.. but I'm not whiling to send it all the way to the USA!! I'm sure the technology is available here! It's blamin' Japan!

Anyway, here's some examples...

many, many more here...

My question... :)
If you was to have yours etched with something, what would be your design and why?

it looks really nice on the blackbook, and i might consider doing it if i could find a place locally. i'd kind of want to see for it myself.

If i was being paid for it, or somebody paid for it, then I think so.
But only with a

-Dunkin Donuts Logo
- Firefox Icon
- Parallels
- Nine Inch Nails Logo
- Rock Band Logo
- Digg logo
- Totally Rad Show Logo
- Tekzillia Logo
- and a Revision 3 logo

On My MacBook Pro.
:D

Yes I would do it. Would probably get "BowZinger" etched into it...or maybe some kind of design.

If you do, go with etching your baby please find out if it VOIDS your warranty or not.

If not then go for it!

But double check if it does or doesn't!

I don't know if I could bring myself to doing this to an expensive MBP, but after looking at the photos you posted, I may be convinced to change my mind! It really looks awesome on the Blackbooks! Now you've got me wanting to buy one :)

Etching your or our Mac does indeed void the warranty!!
But since i've done just about every modifications to mine, possible...
I'm thinking of branding it with Neville Brody's autograph! :D

Look for engraving, trophy or sign making shops locally. Some of them will have laser etching equipment (it's commonly used for plastic, metal and wood signs, and for cutting of thin metal stock into intricate patterns, such as custom exhaust fan covers for overclockerboyz)

You may have seen this before, but for those who haven't.

Here's the YouTube video where Leah found sponsors to buy her a MBP in exchange for laser etching their logos on the case.

Thanks for the tip! ;)

Just curious if that is true because in the video she said that it would not void the warranty; however, she didn't say it with too much conviction...

Apple doesn't like us doing any sorts of alterations to our machines, my local store claims and I quote "laser etching uses powerful lasers which could damage the sensitive equipment, like computers." Perhaps someone here would confirm this?

Yeah, i know.. it's the exterior!!!

If I bought them for a company, I probably would. Otherwise, not a chance. I didn't do free engraving on my iPod just for the "What if I want to sell this thing in a few years?" issue. I could go with a sticker or something similar, but not etching/engraving.

I was going to...had my graphics friend design something and everything...but I decided that I want to put decals of companies I work with on the back. They're easily removable (for resale), and add that touch of personality (cause they don't just have to be logos :) )

I don't think I'd do it. I wouldn't want to risk it. And I know its been done without problems...but its just my luck mine would come out bad.

Hell no. That's not the way I would treat my precious MBP Heck i even clean it with the black cloth everyday and put the sleeve it came in on the bottom of my MBP so do avoid any scratches from my desk.

yeah I'm that cautious.

How about some Body film?

I actually ordered a red speck case. I'll see how that goes. This will let me carry my MBP in my backpack without me getting worried about scratches.

Hmm.. I'd be careful with that Specks case, some users have discovered it scratches the fragile Alu finish on the MBP... There are too many thread on the discussion.apple.com to find all examples, but here's one:

If i were you, I'd apply some protective clear tape to certain areas, probably where the clips are.
