Would you like to be able to access and use the currently hidden iOS file directory?

Funny how you bring that up sarcastically when you really want to say that yourself to demean this poll. Sorry you disagree with it. But it provides more evidence than what you are putting forth.

Curious what you think of my above post. Especially the part about the majority of smart phone users world wide have this access without issue.

Never mind every computer user.

I think a lot of people are scared of file systems, change or just like to play devils advocate.

Basically file system access merely has to be like the photo app. Replace the photos with downloaded files. Does anyone here that objects a file system of sort get confused by photos? When you email a photo do you freak out and the phone bricks? Probably not.

So instead of "Email would like access to "Photos"" you'd see "Email would like access to "Files"". Then select the appropriate file from a list. Only thing that is different it's not pictures it's text. Can we really only not be confused if it's not a picture?

We could all make up stats and say most people this and average user that. But the fact is all of the competition which makes up a larger portion then iPhones do have file system access of sorts. And I never see a problem from users on XDA. I don't browse the windows phone forums but I at least don't hear of problems from them either.

Are Android and WP users more intelligent then iPhone users? Plus this is something that never needs to be messed with if you don't want to be bothered with it.

If people that don't like the idea don't want to be able to email a certain file to someone (zip for example) then they don't have too. They can continue to use the iPhone like they always have more or less.

I love iOS but hate the fact I have to use an Android device at work because the iPhone is incapable of doing very simple file related task. It's getting to the point where I only use my iPhone for social networking and music (toy).

I think you're being over dramatic.

Traditional file system =/= simple way to organize files on iOS.

I voted no in this poll - because I am against the traditional implementations of the file system UI - both the traditional computer version AND Android's implementation.

However, that isn't to say I wouldn't back a version like the "Finder" concept posted above in this thread. The two things I've asked for are Quick Reply and better Email Attachment implementations.....this finder concept could serve as the solution to the attachment problem while also allowing people to see and organize the files on their phones.

The storage implementation would be the same (files saved within apps) - we'd just have a central location to view them all. THIS, I would be in favor of.

Yeah. Tons of file manager apps in the store. They do other stuff too, like have a document viewer, music player, etc. You can even use the "Open In..." feature.
Out of curiosity, if you know (or perhaps someone else might), what are some good/popular ones like that?

Same could be said about the majority of iOS users who DON'T have this access yet use their iOS devices just fine for a VAST number of tasks (productive and creative).

Walk up to 10 random Android users and ask "how often do you take advantage of file system access on your phone?" See what responses you get. I dare you.

Nah; for me, I have no need or desire for this on my iDevices. But I wouldn't be against it if it were a true benefit to other users.

I'm violently opposed!

Unconditionally and emphatically opposed!

It would be terrible and awful!

Oh...OK...I guess you're right...what the heck, if it were a benefit for others...:p

;) :D

Use average user as excuse for not implementing the feature is laughable. Most modern OS has protection mechanism that protect most important system files. Average users will not and would not choose to mess around with system files anyway.

Having use File managers on Android devices really make it easy to managing files and sharing files around with different application. There is no more uploading files to Dropbox, then open files by different apps through Dropbox's share sheet. Just need download the file from internet or drag and drop. Easy.

The current implementation is not better and not more efficient than a decades old concepts. Most of users are grown up with full featured file managers, regardless is Windows a Explorer or Finder. Having a file explorer made it really easy to manipulating files,

Did you not read the last sentence of my post before you responded? Here let me bold it for you.

"Apple could technically release a more controlled "Finder" style functionality for iOS that just lets us access photos, documents and such but nothing more."

No, I don't need it.

Neither do I. Not in my devices.

Now a common file bucket so I can skip all this 'import from iTunes' and 'export to iTunes' nonsense for file sharing. Or having five copies of the same file so I can use it in different programs. Okay that I can go for

Sad to see the Apple brainwashing has kicked in with some people so much they don't think they should have access to their own file system :-(

Or that the current situation isn't a clumsy mess.

Apple hasn't come up with anything better than a file system. Everything they suggest is just a limited, crappy, confusing inconsistent replacement, and that's why it loses.

This opinion is simply too reasonable!

Well you know, I try to look at everything with an objective view - as best I can. Just because there is something that doesn't benefit me, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be done when it could be a benefit to others. :)

I've found that viewing life subjectively hasn't been a rewarding experience for me. I get more accomplished and work better with folks by being more objective.

What does there response matter?

What you are saying just further proves what I'm saying.

If you don't need to use it or want to be bothered with it you don't have too. Why punish everyone, because YOU don't want ME to have it? Wouldn't a better solution be for you to have it and not use it?

Everyone? Everyone does not need it. Some people do.

It's called a figure of speech. Everyone as in everyone that wants that feature, obviously. Sorry I forget not everyone here's first language is English and they may not pick up on nuances of it.

I should add that some sort of shared file system would be necessary to get better attachment support in the mail app, which I feel is a long time coming.

The 'you can't have nice things because we don't want it' line of thought is disturbing.

The whole mail attachment support part of it is certainly one of the bigger things behind it.

What 64% say no! Why on earth would you say no? To me it's the single biggest oversight on the iPhone. The one huge advantage android has over apple. I hate being treated like a child by my phone.

For me it's the only thing. However unlike some, if they have a need for other uses I'm more then happy to just ignore certain features.

I get a weird vibe in this thread like "if I don't need it its unnecessary". Like passbook, useless too me but I'm okay with it I just don't use it. I'm happy the feature is there for those that do.

Unfortunately a lot of threads about fairly straightforward and completely optional things seem to go down a similar path for some reason--no one should even have a simple option for something if I don't need it or care about it.

Maybe you should have read what I said earlier instead of ignoring it.

Same thing with a bunch of Samsung "features." But Samsung clearly isn't known for offering great user experiences.

The fact that you are trying to define what is nice for everyone in the world who uses a certain type of phone is even more disturbing.
