Would you pay $1000 for an iPhone if ATT/Verizon offered data plans for $10 dollars instead of $30-40? In some countries thats how things work. The user pay upfront for the total cost of the device and the carrier gives a discount to monthly rates instead of the carrier subsidizing upfront.

In India it's all about status and a 64gb 4s says look at me! They like sim free to so they can have a local prepay sim and an international sim or two for discounts calling other countries.

The contract market for a population that size and that wealthy is very small as prepay is just the done thing over there and it works.

Americans need to do something about there phone networks. Honestly there piss poor. I mean seriously paying for someone to txt u is a joke.
