I am now in the market of buying a large HDTV. I went to a store and found two identical TVs being displayed side by side. However, there is a price different. When I asked the sales, he told me that they are the same product but one was made in Japan and the other was made in China. Perhaps Apple should do similar things.
Even if the sets were made in Japan/China respectively, it sounds more like a ploy to jack up the price to me. It reminds me of some of the stunts I've seen car dealerships attempt with new models.

Check the manufacturer's web site/reviews, as MSRP is MSRP, despite country of origin. They probably moved production to China to save themselves cash, and increase their margins. Customers are very likely a distant afterthought in the decision. :(

I would but after 6 macs in the family, hundreds at work, the chinese know what they are doing.
Most electronics are made in China. Malaysia and Indonesia aren't far behind. All a matter of manufacturing cost. Japan has gotten expensive, and most have already left. Just like they did in the US beforehand.

I wasn't commenting on the quality of the sets themselves. Only the price difference the store was attempting to obtain by using bias of Japan vs. China.
Japanese made = $$$, vs Chinese made = $$.

So long as the design, parts,... are the same, the sticker indicating where it was made would be the only clue. ;)

Any actual differences in set quality, would be more a result of intentional changes intended to cheapen manufacture/quality control. All in the hands of the manufacturer. Not the employees on the assembly line. :)
