I highly doubt ip5 will be far superior to the 4. I will wait for the 6 instead of wasting my money. The 4 will get io5 & have all the features.

You notice the thread never ends when somebody does this?

To the OP's point, if we're waiting until late this year, it makes you wonder if there's a BIG design change in the works. iOS5 won't do me any good on a 3GS either way...

iOS 5.

Until the 2012 4G LTE loaded iPhone I really don't "need" new hardware. My Verizon iPhone 4 handles things just great, and with a smaller screen the big leaps in graphics, etc, you see on the iPad getting a new CPU/GPU revamp aren't as important to me.

I'd rather have an OS upgrade that revamps things until that LTE phone comes.

For me, iOS5.

I didn't see enough changes in the iPad 2 to justify selling my iPad 1. I suspect that will be the case with the iPhone 5. I'm very pleased and content with the iPhone 4 and so I personally can wait.

I think it depends if you already have an iPhone 4 or not. I personally have an iPhone 3G, and pretty much have been guaranteed no support for iOS 5. I choose iPhone 5. As for the iPhone 4 owners that are anticipating iOS 5 more and don't plan on buying an iPhone 5, I believe that is a smart move. I think at least to go through a 2 year life cycle of a phone's hardware is reasonable, especially those living on tighter budgets

Really? This is what threads here have come to? iOS 5 will be cool, hopefully with lots of new features, but without new hardware people will easily become bored of it. The iPhone 5, without new software, would basically be an iPhone 4.

This is like "would you prefer a sandwich without bread or without fillings and condiments?" Just live with what comes. You don't have to make new threads just cos you can. Make them when you have something useful to say or ask

I thought it would be an interesting question that people could discuss here.

It's Time...

This old and outdated iOS is really starting to get stale...period.
I could wait another 1 or 2 years on iPhone 5 versus a new and updated iOS.

iOS5. I've got a 3GS and will soon be due for an upgrade.

I'm getting too impatient waiting for the iPhone 5 to be released and there's no way I'm going to be able to put up with the 3GS until Autumn, although I'm really hoping those rumours aren't true.

I'll take an iPhone 4 with iOS5.

iOS 5 please. I'm bored with iOS 4, so much so I've done the unthinkable and got rid of my iPhone 3GS for a HTC Desire HD - The OS is a real breath of fresh air in comparison. iOS 5 really does need seriously spruced up to maintain people's interest in it.

I'd need both anyway, I've got a 3GS. I doubt my phone would handle most of the new features.

Forgot one option, I would rather have a Million dollars

It depends on what the iOS5 does if it is compelling to upgrade or not and what it does to the speed of the iPhone 4. As for iPhone 5 not sure what will happen this year however it will be interesting to see what Apple does as a whole in June. I honestly can not see them waiting until next year for a new phone, only because they have AT&T users eligible for an upgrade after having the 3GS for two years, so that would be rude, then again why is everyone so focused on the next release of the Verizon iPhone when the GSM version is driving all the numbers and no one has true 4G yet.
