I have the IPhone X and am holding back on upgrading the iPhone XS because the selfie camera has that smoothening like effect everybody is talking about.

I need my selfies to be top notch and don’t want that feature.

PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS!!!!

So, you can upgrade if you want obviously but I’m just giving my personal opinion.

I love my iPhone X. No issues. The only thing that keeps me up at night is the 3GB of RAM.

Hopefully it’s enough to get me through nicely into the future. Wish it had 4GB.
The RAM in your phone keeps you up at night?

People keep saying online (in articles I've read) the iPhone XS gets horrible LTE and cell/call reception. Since this will be a big purchase for me I'm kind of worried about that.

For those of you with the XS have you been able to get online and make/receive calls okay for the most part (I recognize no phone will be 100% perfect)?

No issues whatsoever with my carrier and/or reception. Some are saying it’s specific to their carrier and others are saying its specific to the location, ect. I personally have not had any issues whatsoever with my XS Max.

I saw someone on this forum say that the XS would be pointless since it's 'already obsolete' because it won't have 5G which comes out next year.

What do you think about that line of reasoning?

Widespread 5G esp. depending on the carrier is quite a ways off, I wouldn't let that deter you from buying an XS.

In forum land, many people have no comprehension of the meaning of obsolete.

To these people, last years phone is obsolete.

Meanwhile, in the real world, my brother is rocking iOS12 on his 5S....

Makes you look good. Also improved in 12.1 beta.

XS Max here. I had issues with WiFi during the first week, but iOS 12.0.1 fixed that. No issues with LTE and call reception.

I really wouldn’t worry about that. Like others have said, it only affected a small percentage of units and most of those units are working fine after the most recent update.

I would not recommend upgrading, at least not yet. You’re basically playing the lottery. I upgraded tonight from an 8+ to an XS and immediately regret my decision. LTE reception is horrible. Pages don’t load, coverage drops from LTE to 4G constantly, and my Speedtests are abysmal. I’m on the latest version of IOS as well—it didn’t matter. I’m on AT&T for what it’s worth, and my 8+ never had a problem. Very disappointed.

I don’t think anyone can give you a definitive answer about LTE connectivity. Many of the issues depend on various things such as location and carrier. I personally have not experienced any issues with LTE on my max but others have. It’s not a blanket issue effecting everyone.

Knock on wood, but my xs max is flawless. At work, I used to struggle with service with my x. With this max, I actually have better reception. No LTE issues for me.

Well if you upgrade, I can assure you, you won't feel like you're losing out or wasted your money. It's a nice upgrade-I upgraded from the 7+ and love the new features. The screen, itself, will make you feel it's well worth the upgrade. I'd say go for it.

if the issues were that bad, there'd be updates galore and/or recalls.. neither has happened. It'll be fine.

Lol. There’s a 123-page thread about the problem. None of this is fine. You think we’re all making this up?

Like I said earlier, buy one and you’re playing the lottery. You *could* be totally okay—there’s no denying that. But there’s a very real chance you won’t be. You just have to scroll through all the Macrumors and Reddit posts to see that.

This isn’t much ado about nothing. It’s a very real problem, one that’s not being acknowledged, and people are justifiably frustrated. Just because you haven’t experienced the situation doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And for the OP, to tell him/her that all is well is a disservice.

There’s nothing wrong with being optimistic, but a full picture needs to be painted here, with a message: buy at your own risk. Yes, you might be a-okay.

Now I have to figure out how to return mine, and get my 8+ back.

This issue seems a very US based issue

It’s clearly an issue but out of millions of phones it’s still a very small % of people affected

Should you get a new phone?

Look at posts above with thousands getting new phones and tracking their delivery. Millions are buying them.

So...???

When these software issues come about and the onslaught of complaints follow.. has there ever been a time it hasn't been addressed? Not fixed? This has happened for years, hence the validation of the Beta releases. Not everything will be caught before the public release. It's software, it will be corrected. So the whole I need to return mine and get my earlier platform seems a bit overboard but hey, to each their own.

I get what you're saying and agree, yes, the issues will be corrected. In my case, I'm waiting a bit as I have friends in my area who's Xs/Max just do not work well and I have friends who's Xs/Max work just fine. Was at a school event for our kids, and my friend next to me has a Max couldn't get inbound calls, showing 1-2 bars, while I'm on LTE. Both Verizon, go figure. Had the exact issue when the 7 series came out for a month or so. So at this point I'm waiting a bit more.

I don't know why Apple releases with seemingly a major issue as that; they know the public goes absolutely wild checking every aspect of the phone. Heck, they submerge the phone in beer for hours, iFixIt tears it apart. So yes, the very large distraction of LTE issues will be immediately noticed and I applaud everyone complaining-it causes change. I think because of it, it keeps Apple on their heels and netting their phones to remain on top in the market imo.

It’s very hard to track random issues and near impossible to beta test products to perfection, I get that, it’s just unfortunate for people with these issues. Best thing is for everyone affected to report this to Apple and hope the resolve comes quickly. That’s why I’m waiting a bit before I upgrade.

I went from out of the box 2 weeks ago to the 12.1 beta, I have had no connectivity issues whatsoever. I love this phone it's awesome! I am sure when 12.1 is released it will fix for most who are having problems, it's far along in the beta process so I would try that if I was having issues.

Going from the box to 12.1 beta proves nothing. Your phone could have been problem free to begin with. You would have had to have used your phone before installing the beta to determine if your phone had issues.

I was not trying to prove or claim anything but make a suggestion.
