Point well taken. The iPhone Max s a great iPhone but ios12 is buggy
I would really love a new Max but one that works. I don’t want to end up all year with an underperforming phone.

I guess at some point we’ll see if the problems that I and others have experienced with connectivity are hardware or software related or a combination of both.

My daughter is getting the XR when it comes out. If it’s the same or better connectivity as her 7, then I might be looking at the XR instead.

The update addresses only a subset of the connectivity issues.
Those with LTE and poor call quality issues are still claiming the update hasn’t fixed them.

Highly recommended. The huge screen plus the biggest screen to body ratio in any iPhone, with such colour accuracy is really a joy just to look at it. Together with the benefits shared with the smaller XS, e.g. much better photos and videos, speed, etc.

ah... and dual SIM on the XS Max! (We actually have two physical nano SIM lots here in Hong Kong.. the best for us who frequently travel to mainland China), I couldn't be happier with it. The only thing that matters is the cost, which is not a big concern to me.
Meh. Just got the 8 Plus @ Best Buy even after checking out the X, Xs and Max right next to it. Had the blue shirt trying to convince me that OLED burn-in wasn’t a problem on iPhones, so then I tapped the music app and the white background showed image retention on ALL the X display models, and none of the 8 or 7 Plus models. He had no good response upon being shown. I’m not interested in superior color depth and true blacks at the expense of the screen. I told him my previous two Galaxy S8 phones suffered crazy image burn in after only like 8 and 4 months, respectively so I’m not looking to spend $900 on the apple OLEDs just to experience the same thing, and saved $200 by going with the 8 Plus...plus, I don’t have to resort to extreme measures to save my screen now. I’ll never buy another AM/OLED phone again.

Absurd. Did you turn the screen brightness to maximum?

I would wait and compare it to the XR screen before making a decision. The XR is much cheaper. Assuming you don't mind the screen difference when compared in real life.
