Hi, I’m currently using an SE and was thinking to buy the new SE in April, if there is any...

But today i read that in my country a huge supermarket chain will sell refurbished 7 (32gb, only original Apple parts were used) with 2 year Guarantee on top for 289€.

I just use my SE for pictures (the quality is enough for me), Whatsapp, browsing and email.

So compared with a iphone SE2 i would save 200€. I read that the 7 will get ios14 too, so it should last a while.

Is there anything i am missing or is this a good choice if i don’t need up to date hardware?

If you wait for iPhone 9 and buy it, you’ll use it until 2024-2025 at least.

If you buy the iPhone 7, you’ll use it until 2022-2023 at most.

Also bear in mind that 2020 will be the last year for iPhone 7 to get the next iOS version; next year it won’t.

So it’s your decision. You’ll use it. Make a decision what will make you happy.

No, I’d personally wait for the SE2 at this point. I’d only buy refurbished directly from Apple because at least you'd get one year warranty with the phone. Buying from other sources may have cheaper parts and likely to only have a 30 to 90 day warranty. But that’s just my opinion.

Agreed with both of these posts.

And if you REALLLY CANNOT wait, then maybe try get a refurb iPhone X or iPhone 8.

No. I am still using my iPhone 7 which I’ve owned since launch. It’s still performing very well today, and I’m delighted to have got 3.5 years out of it, but if the new iPhone SE is as good and as cheap as expected I would definitely pay the extra to buy that now instead of a 7. The extra efficiency of the a13 should give a boost to battery life, and it will be supported for much longer into the future with iOS updates.

100% no for me. I'm used to a bigger screen because of no home button and I like Face ID so much better than Touch ID.

Not at that price. Max I’d pay for one is $200 or less. I’m not inclined to get the iPhone 8 either. Too high an asking price for something just one chipset generation newer than 7 and with the same 2GB RAM.

If you’re not in a rush, I think it’s worth waiting for the SE2/9 which is expected to have A13 and at least 3GB RAM.

iPhone 6s with A9 is still supported and rumors are it’s getting iOS 14. 1GB RAM has long been barely sufficient (pretty much since iOS 7) but 2GB isn’t too awful. I’m guessing the iPhone 7 gets updated to iOS 15.

That said, iPhone SE2/9 will last longer.

You should wait for se2. You mentioned the pictures. In leaks we can find information that se2 wills have camera from 11 pro :)

While I think it’s a bit pointless to speculate how long OS updates will be provided I wouldn’t want a 32 GB device.

It's my 2nd favorite iPhone ever, behind my Xs Max.

You sound budget minded so why not 🤷🏾‍♂️

Would I buy an iPhone 7 in 2020? Absolutely not. It was a great phone in it’s prime, it’s not to say that it’s not capable of handling iOS 13, but I think it’s too late That I would invest any money in a phone thats four generations old.

I also have a 7, and I agree. It’s still a fine phone, but I wouldn’t buy it new in 2020. The SE2 (or whatever) is going to be much more up to date and well worth the extra cost because it will be a good experience a whole lot longer.

No, if you want the 4.7 form factor, I’d wait for the SE2 which is almost a given at this point (Coronavirus excepted). Else the SE that you have is still a good phone if you want to have a small phone still.

Based off what ? This is uncharted territory with iOS updates being on older devices. The 7 could get 15 maybe

What ? The iPhone 7 and the new se2 or 9 would have the same size screen. You literally didn’t answer his question. His choice was the iPhone SE2/9 or the iPhone 7.

I haven't seen rumors of 3 cameras on the "se2", so at best probably from the 11.

I find my 7 is starting to be comparatively slow in safari (not network related) so I'd vote no.

Comparatively to what? Safari and how iOS operates are usually separate entities. Just because Safari might seem like it lags, doesn’t mean iOS performs on the same level, it probably depends what you’re actually using Safari for in retrospect.

I wouldn’t buy one in 2020 but I have an iPhone 7 in 2020 and I bought it the end of 2018 and even now it’s a perfectly good phone. I mean I’ve a very old ipad form 2014 and yes it’s out of date but for what I use it for it’s perfect still.

Current iPhones have so many more bells and whistles as well as greatly improved battery life. and a terrific Camera
Only nice feature of the iPhone 7 is how thin it was but overall the iPhone 7 is an antique speed wise and everything else
No I would not by an iPhone 7
