I think these companies are going to have a reality check as the amount of people who opt out will be significant. An option with it and without it needs to be the standard if they wish AI to be used.
Yes, they are. If it benefits the company then they wouldn’t charge but if they’re not gonna benefit from it they’re going to charge people. Either way I want no part of this myself.

I believe Apple will probably roll out Apple Intelligence like they did Apple TV channels, that is, while they don’t have a lot of content or function, it will be free, but when they increase the amount of functionality, they will start charging. As long as they don’t charge an arm and leg I will pay. But we can’t be talking more than 2.99 a month.

The problem with that strategy is that first impressions last.
A lot of people will do the free trial; think it's garbage and ditch it once it gets pay walled; never to look into it again.

True.
But they may think that people who are aware of Apple Intelligence features, for example, like the members of MacRumors, 9 to 5 Mac, etc. maybe be aware that the features will be increasing and will stick with it. I know that is a relatively small amount of people, but it may work for them, as did the Apple Channels trial.
I don’t know. The cost and ease of use will be a major factor, I think. If it’s $20 a month they can forget it.

Wait until all of it is subscription.

I wonder what will be taken away in the process.

You used to be able to sync playlists across iCloud. Now it requires an Apple Music subscription.

Also, a new phone will be needed to use "the latest and greatest AI features!"

There's tons of services that builds on ChatGPT that are better then Apple's Siri.
I have bought a lifetime-licence for ReWritebar for macOS that uses ChatGPT for $15
It's definitely affordable.
It would be nice if it comes to iOS too, but I use my Mac's a lot more, so I'm fine with it.

Can't see many people paying $20 a month for anything that has been announced so far as a standalone sub.

Don't rule out the bundling into Apple One though, could see them including this into the Apple One tier that offers the highest iCloud storage and then increasing the price of that tier thus pushing people to pay for it if they want the most cloud storage.
