Nope. I find some of the “AI” tools out there useful, but none of them are compelling enough for me to spend money on, and Apple Intelligence is no exception. If this rumor is true, I’m curious what features Apple thinks will be good enough to demand a subscription fee.

I think either German has his info mixed up, it’s just plain wrong, or like Emergency Satellite SOS, Apple says they will charge… eventually.

This is the same price as a ChatGPT subscription I believe. I split a ChatGPT subscription with my law student daughter and we both get good value from it. It seems good at summarising huge screeds of legal info. I'm a freelance writer and it hasn't replaced me quite yet, but it helps out with bulk word crunching. Plus it's good company for some wide-ranging conversations. So if I get this functionality with an Apple Intelligence subscription, plus some other stuff, for the same price, that would work well for me, I think.

Nope. No chance. There AI subscriptions will be so low that Tim Cook and Apple will then create apps and features on next years iOS that would require AI subscription to work.

A very typical Apple nickel and dime move.

Looking at Tim Cook‘s Apple, I’m surprised they haven’t brought back paid updates to Mac OS, and introduced a $89.99 yearly update for iOS.

Apple is a little too late to the party to be talking about charging for their “Intelligence”.
It would have to be so useful that I couldn’t live without it, and at this point we don’t even know what it does.

  • I would pay for a Facebook-like service, if it did not harvest my data. Facebook does. I do not subscribe.
  • I would pay for a Twitter-like service, if it did not harvest my data. Twitter does. I do not subscribe. (Nor do I call it "X.")
  • Etc.
I am not clear why I would even pay for AI. Why would I even use it?

zero chance; i don't think i'd even accept a "free" 3 month subscription if they offered.

I would like to consider it, only if they include that in the Apple One, and take down Apple Arcade.

I would accept a 3 month free trial, but highly doubt I would continue unless it drastically makes a difference for me.

As long as the features already announced don’t get wrapped into that service, I’m fine. I won’t pay for anything extra. What has already been announced is all I want. I’ve defended iOS 18 and apple intelligence as for me I see the daily value. However, if they try and charge a cost for those features, I will move on to android and not just come here and post negative comments.

Can definitely see Apple charging for this in the future. Don't like to pay for another subscription. Hope it is added to Apple One. But then Apple will definitely increase the subscription charges for Apple One.

No, I'm a freelancer so I don't have regular income, sometimes I earn more, sometimes less, I can't predict my income at all. So I'm extremely picky when it comes to what I spend recurring monthly payments on. Gas, electricity, internet, rent, car insurance, etc. can't be avoided. Everything else has to be a really big deal for me to consider it. I'd rather buy things when I have money, and then lay low when I have less work. For that to be an option, I have to avoid monthly recurring payments like a plague.

The only way I'd pay for this is if it's bundled into Apple One. One is a pretty good value for what you get. However, I'd be disappointed if they add AI to Apple One and use that to justify a 30% price increase or something

I'd pay them to remove it completely, but that won't be a problem for a while, because that's another reason not to upgrade my phone.
