Would you switch from unlimited to the 5GB + tethering plan for $30/mth?

I understand why AT&T needs to throttle data and I don't necessarily blame them if bandwidth is a major concern. But I completely disagree with the way they are treating their longest and most loyal customers. Instead of offering them a good reason to switch to a tiered plan, they're instead hindering the experience of having unlimited to begin with. AT&T should be rewarding their most loyal customers....and I think I have a fairly reasonable solution.

Currently the 5GB data plan costs customers $50/mth and it includes tethering. If AT&T offered me the option to switch to the 5GB + tethering plan for the same price I'm paying for unlimited, I would 100% switch to the tiered plan. By doing this, the company would be preventing users from gobbling up insane data allotments while still rewarding their most loyal customers by giving them a discount on what's currently being offered. To me, that seems like a win-win for all sides.

So if AT&T offered a program like this, would you accept the move to the tiered plan? Do you think it would be fair?

Heck yeah! :D

The point of this thread was "WOULD YOU SWITCH OFF UNLIMITED IF AT&T...."

uh. You asked the link for the deals buggs and I were referring to, I answered. If it's not of interest to you, then don't request info on it ;)

Personally, I wish they'd just let me tether on the $30/3GB plan. That'd be the ideal situation I think for many folks, including me.

I wouldnt be surprised though if ATT did like VZW and do a double your data promotion or something, that'd be interesting.

Fair point. But jailbreak is always a little behind the official OS releases and most people prefer the stability of the device when it's not jailbroken.

I hear you. Its not for everyone.
For me a stock iphone is missing way too many important features that the JB brings. I usually stay JB on older firmware if there newest release is not JB yet.

This just seems like such an easy solution for AT&T that I'd be pretty surprised they haven't given it serious thought. Truly would be a fair solution for all parties involved.

I doubt AT&T cares about being fair. It's criminal that they charge for tethering on tiered plans. I understand why they do it on unlimited plans but with tiered plans if I want to tether and use all my data on the first day I should be able to and they can charge me more when I go over.

Correct me if I am wrong, but they aren't really charging you MORE for tethering, they are simply making you pay for more data per month (at $10/GB which is how all of their 3GB tier is priced now too).

If I tether and I use 3gb I pay $50 with the tethering plan. What should happen is I pay $30 for the 3gb plan and tether if I want to. Then if I go over fine charge me more.

Just ditched my unlimited since it's not unlimited and I have never gone over 500mb in a month. I called AT&T and told them how crappy throttling is and how much I'm paying for unlimited. I asked them what they could do. They said nothing. I then said well, how about you switch me to the 5gb month + tethering for $40 a month for a year. They said they could not adjust the price. So I said, then why not offer me a credit for the entire year for the difference?

So they did. $135 dollar credit applied and I am not on the 5gb month data + tethering. $40 a month, not bad. Works out as I am getting a WIFI only iPad 3 when it hits so I now have that feature. It's also nice when the power goes out and I don't have internet. I have 3G for my laptop now as well.

If they offered it for $40 a month, I would take it. Still a good price. $50 is just too much.

I'll never give up unlimited even though it's not actually unlimited anymore lol. I keep hoping if enough people abandon it they'll decide to stop limiting it :p

If they offered me unlimited internet for 30$ I would get that. Thats a great deal.

Oh wait, they already did, and most of us did get it. Then they Materially changed the terms of our contracts. Very sneaky ATT

I just bought a verizon droid(waiting until iPhone 5 and LTE), I just could not take the lack of tethering and SLOW speeds I have been getting lately here in Chicago.
I jumped on verizons double data offer, picked up 10Gb's for 50 bucks.....yes more expensive than the 30 BUT I called and added the hotspot....Now here is where it gets interesting. I was told that the hotspot allows me to use any and ALL of my 10GB allowance if I so choose... Cost FREE. they are not charging for the mobile hotspot.

Cant really answer why, but I'm not asking either. I confirmed with 3 reps that this was legit and all three said NO problem...

So for 20 more I can tether UP to the 10 GB, more than enough for me and I'm rockin LTE speed...like 15-24 down...awesome..
I bought this plan asI wait for the iPhone 5 LTE, ill be all set. So a few months of no iPhone, but the droid bionic is OK..

GO Verizon..

Or you could just do what I did, and add the 4G mobile hotspot that is unlimited and it changes your data to unlimited, then you would have 60$ unlimited LTE and unlimited hotspot just like I do.

I have been doing over 16 gigs a month for the past two months (since I joined verizon)

Go Verizon!

I would, if I had unlimited and if AT&T would offer that plan (lol ya right!)

On the surface this plan seems too much in favor of the customer for ATT to ever adopt it- however there are many people like myself who pay for unlimited data and don't even hit 2 or 3 gigs a month. I have kept my unlimited all this time for the SLIGHT off chance that when 4G arrives we won't be forced to switch out of unlimited. I'm sure we will be, but I figured just in case.

So if ATT did offer a plan like this I think a lot of people would sign up, then never use it to its full potential. Unfortunately for all us ATT customers, I don't see them doing it- I think this whole 3GB throttling thing is a pretty clean indication that their network is struggling to keep up with the data hungry customers.

You know, it would be very hard to get me off of unlimited without forcing (Mainly cause I hate worrying about getting charged for going over, I'd rather be throttled even), but yeah, I would. Because right now I don't even use 2 GBs and while tethering would make it more likely I'd use more I honestly don't see me needing tethering that much so it would just be a nice side benefit.

To me that would be an excellent deal (That will never happen cause AT&T already charges more for less data and tethering).

Well this isn't necessarily true b/c AT&T stated that once you move to LTE they won't throttle until you hit 5 GB (same as what I'm proposing). So basically, even if you stayed on unlimited, you would be getting 5 GB for $30/mth before being throttled but only difference is you wouldn't have access to tethering. The offer I'm proposing would basically be to throw in the tethering option for their loyal customers and if we go over 5GB, we're willing to pay the $10/GB for the extra data we use.
