No wonder apple charges so much for their toys. It is a vicious cycle. I don't know about the screen bleed, but the glass being raised is a minor cosmetic flaw. People are expecting jewelry when they buy the phone. If people just accepted very minor cosmetic flaws (that wouldn't even be noticable without a close inspection) apple could (but probably wouldn't) drop prices for everybody.

I don't think you'll look picky - Apple products have an expectation of high quality. Think of it this way - if you were pitching it to Steve, would he complain about the build quality?

Absolutely.

exactly!

i'm glad that the members who said that i should just put up with the slanted sleep button, the light bleed and the raised glass are in the minority, if we all thought like that, quality control at apple would be none existent and they would think they could ship us goods in any condition they liked.

thanks for all your opinions.

i'm sure you and me both, given the choice, would pay more for a product in perfect condition than pay less for one with minor cosmetic flaws.

Stories like these are scaring me cos i'm considering getting a 3G iPhone. Do i have to wait a month or so for new batch of shipments to arrive?

don't be scared, there are plenty of people who are over the moon with their iphone, i'm in the minority.

and in the off chance that your iphone does have a fault, rest assured that apple are very good when it comes to returns, as long as you have a legitimate reason/fault to return your iphone, they will change it for you without a problem.

i'm speaking from experience when i bought my 60gb video ipod a few years ago and had to take it back twice for a new one due to hard drive problems inside the ipod.

Geeze you people....

Thanks to this thread I just looked at my phone the same way and noticed the glass is just a little "non-flush" at one corner. I have no light bleed or any other problems...so it really doesnt bother me. I mean, it is man made, if there is light bleed that is one thing, or if it is letting dust in, but just being a little not-flush I mean come on. It is only $300, when you think about it thats not a whole lot....people spend waaaay more on cars and whatnot and deal with much more serious problems. If you have no other problems with the phone Id say is it really worth it to sit in line...blah blah......and deal with those shenanigans?

Exactly. Would you not buy a car if the radio knob wasn't "perfectly" centered in it's cut out hole in the dash? No.

Would you not buy a house because you see a nailhole on a wall inside a closet? No.

^

well bear in mind my particular iphone has light bleed on the edges, slanted sleep button, battery issues which even firmware 347 hasn't resolved, and the raised glass on the front.

i'm sure apple won't hesitate to change the phone for me, with all these problems.

Return it.

We all should return whatever device we get with the slightest issue whether cosmatic or whatsoever to send a message asking for a better quality control.

Unfortunately, Apple is getting bad in terms of their QC lately due to the increase in revenues.

I'd return it.
I like things perfect ;)

haha, if u see mine: the mic is ressesed right well the metal thing inside that the speaker has is not there u only see a black hole

Am ashemed to go to the apple store I've exchange so many things. But today am getting warranty for my old iPhone so i'll tell them

I have found mine has the reverse, the lower right corner is lower than the polished metal suround :(

It's not to bad and I can live with it. If there was the stock available I would take it back, but the local stores wont have any for awhile (2weeks)

I would think that you'd have a hard time trying to convince the Apple store and especially AT&T that this defect warrants getting a new iPhone. I'm sure the AT&T store would just try to convince you that it's normal or that there is nothing wrong with it. The Apple store is usually more understanding, but good luck trying to find one that isn't sold out of iPhones.

I already took one back within 3 days of owning it. I found out that the whites had small cracks, mine did, took it to apple and they replaced it. Apple has always had a great warranty and has always been very easy to deal with. Depends on whether you want to take it back and bother, i would take it to the genius bar and see what they say...what do you have to lose!

I agree with others. Return it and point it out

It may not be a big deal now but with a few twist and turns, it could be a huge deal in a few weeks

this is nothing new. the screen not being flush to the rest of the device is hand in hand w/ the light bleeding. all the iphones that i went through that had light bleeding had this as well; i just thought it was assumed it was part of the light bleeding package.

Dude JUST ENJOY THE PHONE! It's a beautiful piece of machinery.

Five months from now, you'll be sexually aroused by the fact that your phone, from the 28 million Apple will have sold, is one of a select few with a fugly, jacked up, protruding face.

Force yourself to enjoy it now, and look forward to the day you'll come to accept its flaws. Enlightenment will soon ensue.

NO YOU MUST RETURN IT MAN, you paid for it, therefore you have the right to a perfect product. if it bothers you do it before its too long after you bought the product (its better if you return it like 2-3 days then the store know for sure the defects couldnt have been caused/done by you)..

damn i will have to wait a few months at least when maybe iPhone3Gs come with v2.1 and in 32GB and have no more defects...

that's my philosophy too, if you pay for a perfect product, you deserve a perfect product. i find it a joke that some people are saying i should just accept it and enjoy the product for what it is.

as for taking it back asap, i'm out of the country for a few weeks in europe, obviously my iphone doesn't have any signal here so it's just sitting in my suitcase. so the earliest i can take it back to apple is around 4-5 weeks after the purchase date, but i don't think it matters. light bleeding and the raised glass on the front isn't something a user can really cause, it's manufacturer error.

i have the same problem, i went to take it back to apple and they said take it to my carrier for a probable replacement (optus in AU)

good luck, make sure you tell them that this is not what apple advertised and definitely not what you paid for, and it could get worse over time, you never know.

I just checked my phone and the glass does stick out a bit on the top.

Nope, not going to return it. Everything works. If you feel you need to return it and get your perfect phone, more power to you. For me life it too short to pursue perfection in a $300 device. I hope you never have a new house built. You are in for a rude awakening.

No flaws should exist and if they do, it should be returned

Women should be the same way but we all know how that really is....

if everything else with your phone works fine, that's great. but remember i have a battery issue and also light bleeding on the front. if it was just the glass being a little none-flush, i would probably just live with it, but with everything else combined it's a little too much.
