And if they do release one there will be even more threads.

At this point, I'm looking at it from this point of view:

If they release one, there will be threads of people complaining about everything it isn't, to which us old users will say, "Shut up and buy a regular iPhone, because that's where all those features are."

If they don't release one, there will be threads of people complaining that they didn't release one and how essential to Apple's non-bankruptcy it is to have one, to which us old users will say, "Shut up," anyway.

So my current dilemma is figuring out which way gets the people on the forum who matter fewer threads to weed through.

Well, yeah. I don't think Apple would ever release something as prolific as a whole new phone and have it suck by any means.

If Apple ever did decide to make a "stick phone" that is literally just a voice phone with some type of basic media playback, I'm sure it'll be the best 'that' out there.

Actually, you're correct.
Everybody thought the iPod was going to be stupid as hell.
Look how great that turned out.
It is now the best selling media player on the market.
The iPhone is getting there so chances are now matter how ridiculous a product may seem, Apple can make it one of the best devices of it's kind.

I'd love to see a Steve Jobs appearance. I doubt there will be an iPhone nano though. Why is everyone so hyped up about the iPhone nano that doesn't even exist yet? I could be wrong. I was way off about the MacBook Air. When Apple deployed the "something in the air" banner a few days before MWSF 07 I kept saying how there will be no such thing as "MacBook Air". So who knows?
