I was listening to several different Podcasts today, and a point that was continuously made concerning the new iPhones screen was that Apple doesnt want to make a wider phone and that a taller phone would allow them to still put the LTE chip and also allow for a larger battery. The 19 pin connector is almost a certainty at this point in time considering the face that Apple has been using the 30 pin connector for 10 years and it's time to change to a smaller form factor which also would allow for more space "under the hood." Personally, I would not mind a taller phone but not wider phone. I don't want a galaxy note sized phone in my pocket all day.

Also I've heard that if Apple does not manufacture an accessory for the 19-30 pin connector that some 3rd party manufacturers will.

First, why fix what ain't broken? Aside from the sake of novelty, that is... Second, if they're making the iPhone larger, they're already gaining a lot of "space under the hood."

Aside from that picture of the taller iphone (or group of pictures, which are questionable in and of themselves) posted several weeks ago, I haven't seen any concrete evidence (ie, parts being ordered by Apple, etc) that would indicate a smaller dock connector.

You won't see any "concrete" evidence until the phone is announced unless there is another "bar scandal" like the one that we saw unfold before the iPhone 4 was announced.

As for the dock connector, there have been people asking for a smaller connector for awhile because of the fact that there are so many other phones with the micro-usb connector. I'm not saying that this is all going to happen it's just an opinion. No I don't have any concrete evidence, but no one does. It's all speculation and this just fuels the fire for Apple when it comes time to get everyone to buy one.

I've read on several occasions that the upcoming announcement this fall is supposedly going to be Apples largest ever, and that some analysts are reporting that the "New" iPhone, or iPhone 5 is going to be the single biggest product launch in history, beating the mark set by Microsoft's Kinect, if I'm not mistaken.

Now to cut this ramble short, I think Apple is going to go a different direction with the use of dock since they are rolling all of this iCloud capability out. I know I'm not the only one that doesn't sync my phone using a dock anymore. I only use it for charging purposes. Larger screen, larger battery, LTE chip, MAYBE NFC. The possibility for NFC would also require more real estate.

The sooner they kill the 30 pin connector the better. I'm amazed it's lasted this long.

I've got some accessories that'll no longer work/will require an adaptor, but sometimes you've got to suck it up for the sake of progress. I want thunderbolt/usb3 speeds, not a connector from another era that's been retrofitted past it's sell by date.

As long as the new connector offers those improvements. Have we heard any info on that? If its just a change in shape to offer compatibility, I'd just as soon keep my several hundred dollars worth of accessories.

True. The MagSafe change was nothing more than a size decrease on the laptops, be annoying if that was all there was with a smaller iPhone connector. I'd be surprised if was just for the sake of smaller though. Realistically, a new port should be forward looking for at least 5 years surely.

I just dont see the point of a taller screen? I would really like some more space when using safari in landscape mode. Or even texting.. There just isnt enough screen space.
The only thing I can think of is Apples stubborn refusal to offer a 4.0" display with the same excellent aspect ratio that's a staple in the Android community.

If Apple can't claim they invented it, they'll do something as bizarre as is currently rumored. Nothing if not clever, and all powerful, Apple will convince it's followers this elongated shape is magical.

One things for sure, I'll take a pass for the first time in the history of iPhones. I've had every one thus far, and it's very disappointing to watch this odd new model evolve as it is rumored to be.

I'm with you there (although I skipped the S phones, not a money issue, just personally saw little reason to upgrade).

My only hope is that this taller thing at that res isn't true, as such a res could only remain relevant for a limited time - it wouldn't be great now, and frankly laughable late 13 and beyond - so why bother upsetting the developer apple cart (no pun intended) for such a minor improvement?
