Does it actually say that anywhere on the receipt (don't have mine handy)?

I'm not sure but they don't have to put it on there. All retailers have a clause that gives them an out at lets them returns items at their discretion.

I recommend going back and not telling them why you're returning it. You don't have to give a reason, just return it with your receipt, and say I want my money back.

I just gave up after a couple of bad units. Asked for return and bought Tab 8.9 for now. It is perfect out of the box.

They tried to pull that on me. I was returning one with bad backlight bleed... A white line across the top of the screen. It looked like the screen was separating from the display. I purchased another on line, to pick up while I was making the return... When I told them why I was there they said they'd have a genius look at it. I told them oh no.... I don't want it, I'm within the return window and I have another one waiting for me. I don't want it, and I'm not keeping it.
Good luck to you... They can't make you keep it

Thanks. Hopefully there will be some new shipments this week at my favorite apple store.

That was my assumption, since I am within the return period I shouldnt have to give a reason. And it shouldn't matter if a genius finds a problem with it or not. I am simply returning it.

Be assertive. "I am returning my iPad. I want my money back."

If they ask why, simply say, "I want my money back." That is enough.

They may ask if anything is wrong with the device, just say No. I've had stores deny my return saying, "If it's a defective product, we can only give you an exchange for a new one." which would be fine for you, since that's what you want, but since they might not have one in stock, its safer to just get your money back.

I'll never understand that policy anyway...I'll just return later with my unopened exchange item and get my money back if that's what I want! :)

That is some bs. As long as you didn't cause any physical damage to the unit you want to return, she should not be giving you a hard time. The only reason you would need to make a genius bar appointment is if you wanted to get apple care plus on your iPad after you already bought it.

Nope. Went to different store I never went to before. The apple store I always go into is fine w me exchanging again, they just don't have model I want.

This is my second exchange.

I would go for the gift card and wait it out:cool:

I don't know what some of your are on about. You have 14 days to return it, period. They don't have an "out clause", except if you damaged it or don't have the original packaging. They legally have to accept the return and refund your money. Now some employees may decide to ignore this and not accept the return, but they are in the wrong. You dont have to give a reason.

Why wouldnt you just return it to the apple store that will let you, have the cash then use the cash to buy the model you want, since you went to both stores anyway :/

I may have to do that but I hate being with out my iPad in the meantime.

Thanks for the advice!

I never said that you had to give a reason but like I already said Apple does have every right to deny the return if they suspect something is not right. I have worked in retail and they do not have to legally accept the return and refund the money is something is amiss.
