one thin apple needs to improve desperately is their spelling/search suggestions. aside from there not being any for maps, so if you are searching for something and you are a letter off, then you are sol, but in general throughout iOS their spelling suggestions suck and i always end up going to google to figure out how to spell what i need.

sometimes i'm just a letter off and it will have no suggestions for me or completely off suggestions.

I may be late to the complain game... but does anybody get this when they try to route...?

It is NOT nitpicking. :D
Why don't they load detailed data for a huge area? Maps should be crisp on any zoom level.

That's your opinion, I say they should be smoothed when zoomed out as you cant make out any details anyway. And now? It is a matter of taste.

But should Apples method saves me data transfer I am all for it.

Oh yeah, I'm all for Apple's methods too:

This is where I live, one of the top ten urban area in the UK.
Blurred when you zoom out?
This is all you get however close you're zoomed in.

Nothing to do with what we were talking about, but yeah, Apple seem to hate the UK very much.

I *was* being facetious ;)

But don't worry, satellite pictures are improving. With about 265 countries on earth I am sure the UK will be updated soon - maybe you are #250-#260 in the line followed by the axis of evil states to come in last :p

I know, I know. Thing is I can't find the button to submit my own satellite imagery to Apple. It has to be here somewhere because they said it was all going to improve as more people used it right?

I don't think they believe most people have their own satellite.

Sydney siders might be more concerned with this one.

I just got my iPhone 5, and i was looking up directions to the Shangri La hotel in Sydney city. The Apple map gave me directions that took me across the Harbour bridge, through a toll road, basically a massive detour as compared to the directions i got from google maps online.

If thats a two way highway, one of them is telling you to take the first u turn the other things you are already on the right side of the highway

No, frozzbite is correct. It's basically saying pass within 100 meters of your destination, needlessly get on the freeway to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, drive a few kilometres north, loop back, drive the couple of kilometres back across the bridge (paying a toll needlessly), take an off ramp and arrive at your destination. Keeping in mind that during peak hour, that 4-5km detour could add 40-60 minutes to a journey as traffic crawls across that bridge.

It's 100% completely wrong - The Google Maps way is the best way but there must be half a dozen other decent routes, none of which involve pointlessly driving over to the other side of the Harbour and back.

Ah, the man-hour myth. Only works if you can parallelize tasks 100%. Unfortunately, in the real world, sometimes there is such a thing as too many people working on the same tasks.

You can't just throw more programmers/testers/engineers at a problem sometimes, as you'll get a huge mess as opinions and implementations start colliding with each other. In the end, what a team of 20 could produce in a year, a team of 5 could in 6 months by eliminating a lot of the in-fighting and having better focus and task definitions, with little overlap.

No seriously, Apple can't multiply the man hours with money.

See "Brooke's Law": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks's_law

It's similar to what you're talking about.

It's Nottingham, it's gunshot smoke
Being a stupid american I'm stunned to hear gun and England in same sentence.
I looked at Nottingham if you scroll just north you see the edge of the fog/gunshot/cloud cover. Must be hard to get a clear day

Luckily some people can find the button to report a problem with the image tiles and allow Apple to source a different ones.

Are you kidding me? Most of the UK looks like this. If Apple doesn't already know much of their current satellite data is garbage they've got even bigger problems than we thought.

I'm sure someone did get shot here... about 3 years ago.

And a day in colour too it would seem

No it doesn't. Don't lie.

My mistake. Some of it's in colour look:

lol, after seeing that, I decided to poke around (I'm just a curious Yank in the states). I chose York, which amazingly shows how schizophrenic Apple maps can be (click on the thumbnail for the full-size image):
