I was addressing his claim that TomTom should be blamed for all of the problems when the turn by turn software is probably the least of Maps issues.

And I said it depends on where You are - here it's very much to blame for the problems because the turn-by-turn builds on incorrect and lacking TomTom maps. I'm not even taking the POI's from Yelp into consideration.

Well..probably because you don't even have POI's from Yelp in Denmark...

But it still gave you a direction, a big sign at the top with street names to head to including direction and where to turn, right?

And why didn't you just switch to standard view?

You're complaining about the horrible satellite images in many parts of England which no one is denying...how were the directions?

And transit directions involve pressing one extra button...and in most cases, will provide better options than Google ever did...not for every single location in the world, but in most cases...

Why should i have to change the way i want to use an App just because Apple dropped the ball?

Sure, looking at this
3VkcF.png
makes for a great user experience when using the directions. Plus the directions were also inaccurate.

The point is that i shouldn't have to download an extra app to carry out a process that the previous version of the app did perfectly. They've taken out something that was genuinely useful and replaced it with "Flyover", the processing of which is/was an absolute waste of man hours

Can you give a general starting address and ending address?

Iran actual address was listed (or correct poi label), are the directions correct?

How do you even know which POI i was looking for? Jesus, stop trying so hard. You don't owe Apple anything, it's not like they give a damn about some guy on the internet defending them because someone pointed out a flaw in one of their apps. You can clearly see from the photo i posted that there's a problem with the Maps app, i don't have any idea why you're trying to defend it so vehemently. At least with Siri it was hit & miss and sometimes understood what you were saying, as of now, Maps will never be useful to me until Apple updates it.

Boy...you all just don't get it...I'm not trying to defend how "great" maps are, I'm simply trying to clarify what is ACTUALLY bad about them.

Again....the satellite images are pure CRAP in certain areas, but the post was about walking directions...we're they CRAP too? Did it give the wrong directions? We're proper transit directions not available as he inferred?

Simply trying to raise the level of discussion on these forums to actual solutions or facts and not just people WHINING!

I have fully admitted when I was wrong or off topic...but a post in this thread stating " Maps in London are pure crap!" doesn't help anyone...how about some facts. Why was it crap? Give a specific example where it didn't work so others can check it out. How will we know if it was ever fixed?

These same people complaining will rarely (if ever) come back and say they were wrong. Just trying to keep things honest.

The problem is that the maps ARE just pure crap, in England at least.

There are far too many problems to list, although I have given various examples in the past, including in this thread.

There are thousands of POIs missing. There's a mislabelled town near me. There's a mislabelled road near me. There's a castle in my town that doesn't have anything to indicate its' existence on the vector map. Etc etc.

I don't care what poi you were looking for...again, stop reading so much into my simp,e question.

Just trying to determine if Maps gives the same info as Google or other maps beyond the obvious screw ups with poi's and satellite images.

It is SO easy to claim that something doesn't work when no specifics are given. I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying, why not say that "I was trying to go from here to here and Maps took me the longest way possible compared to Google which takes me the best way."

Already, when TWO whole people gave me specifics on here. As able to see that:

A) the user gave the wrong town info which is why Apple took them to the "wrong" store.

B). Apple, in fact, took the long way because they did not include walking paths in a park...BUT, the maps app actually will go through a park if the paths are included.

Anyone can bitch and moan on the Internet...how about trying to actually help people out with useful information so it can either be fixed properly or at least inform others of things to avoid.

If poi's suck, will the address still get me there? If the satellite images blow, can I use the standard view instead? If transit is not integrated, is there a third party app that works even better where I live?

Why did it take three posts to find out that the poi was labelled incorrectly?

Okay - avoid Apple Maps!!

Chances are you won't have an address because you're only likely to be looking for POIs on a map in places you're not familiar with. If a poi is missing, you probably won't even know it exists.

I don't care for satellite view so don't care either way.

Probably, but again, you probably wouldn't need transit information near where you live. Also, if you visit different towns you'd probably need different transit apps. Much better if its all integrated.

You are a die hard apple defender.

Tell us more about this castle.:D

4 weeks and 3300 posts later can we agree that Maps is a disaster for many people and move on?

seems like the strategy is to keep the pressure on Apple so that they will feel guilty enough to approve the Google Maps app, and then integrate a check-off in iOS 6.x to allow us to choose which Maps app to integrate into iOS.

It'll only work if Apple feels guilty enough...

Yeah, sure, that's gonna work!

There's report a problem button for a reason...

When I'm finding a place, I'm looking at street names, not POI's.... A lot of people do the same....

I travelled from west Berkshire through London and into essex via public transport, google maps transit integration was crap, mostly wrong, out of date and unreliable, so I've always used 2 3rd party apps, UK train times and TubeMap. A lot of people I know didn't bother with google's public transit in the UK for the same reason....

What criteria determines whether or not a POI has an actual POI symbol on Maps?

It looks like very few show up in some areas, but if I simply type in the name of a restaurant for example, it does show it in the correct place and even has a Yelp review associated with it.

I wonder if some people are expecting to see a symbol for every single business location?

In general, yes you should expect to see a POI for all (or most businesses) - I expect Maps (or the related search engine) to find what I'm looking for and help me get there. But Apple should start by fixing the few they have in place.

It must be fixed now, then; I blurted out "How's the weather in St. Louis" (no other qualifiers) and it gave me the forecast for St. Louis, MO. It was obviously for St. Louis - pictures of the Cardinals, the Arch, etc.

You're right. It does appear that it's fixed. Glad to see that for my friends in St. Louis!
