just edidted the post to show what google shows

Fair enough. For me it's the other way round. Apple maps shows the houses on my estate. Google maps shows them from circa 2001.....

Today was the first time I went somewhere I'd never been before with it.

Declaring Maps a winner with a data set of one.

Say, are you a scientist by any chance? :D

Well without more detail from the person that posted, you're speculating, I was going on the details in the post, thus I said "from the looks.."

Well given that you can match houses on both maps, the other guy is almost certainly correct. As well as the Apple images being extremely low res and crappy compared to the Google ones, the Apple ones are old from before the guys house was built.

A handful of thoughts:

First, is any body else as sad as I am that fields are being turned into saccharin suburbs?

Second, for me it's 50/50 - Apple's and Google's maps each have their own errors, and where I am the errors are evenly distributed across the two. HERE maps is the worst by a small but detectable margin, so I wonder why everybody was so blown enthusiastic about Nokia's maps.

Third, Apple is simply not correcting multiple errors in my home town that I have submitted repeatedly. As a user, I simply do not care what licensing agreements they have or which databases Apple is plugging into, it's bad that the errors occurred in the first place, and rude to ask users to send in error reports and then not act on them.

Haha, Weren't you the one always stating how perfect they were? :D

Never...I've always stated the poi's were an issue...just not as much in the area where I live and it always worked in the cities I traveled to.

I still think nothing beats Apple for turn by turn UI...the search logic for POI's has definitely improved though.

Oh...and FYI to those that say Google fixes problems quickly...

Issue submitted the day the app came out when I was testing (Dec-13?)...I love that I received a confirmation of the problem and an actual response one week later that I was correct and that it would be fixed.

One month later and nothing has been fixed...I hope it is because they are being inundated with fix requests because of all the additional people using the app now.

I think you're missing my point, "SICKB0Y".

My point was, I was very apprehensive about using Maps at all with all the fuss that's been made about it, after using it in an unfamiliar place, it wasn't so bad.

If you paid attention, he added the additional pics after my post.... See below...

Apple Maps continues to do right by me. Still haven't downloaded Google maps.

Yeah, I just used it for a week and a half over the holidays to get around in another city. No issues whatsoever. I've taken to using it more than waze at this point (which I think tries a bit too hard to find the "fastest" route).

Yeah..what's with that? (with Waze...)

Tried to take me down a weird side street and avoid making a left turn onto a major road yesterday....I avoid it when I know where I'm going (just looking for traffic updates), but I won't use it when I travel for fear of it taking me on weird side streets.

Just saw a story on the 11:00 PM news in Atlanta, GA about Apple Maps.

Turns out that Atlantic Station, one of the large, open air shopping areas in the city, is shown to be in the middle of a residential neighborhood on Apple Maps. The neighbors said they've been having to deal with lost drivers speeding through their otherwise quiet neighborhood since the release of iOS 6.

I checked and sure enough -- "Atlantic Station" is actually shown in Apple Maps as a neighborhood about a mile from where the actual open air mall area named Atlantic Station is actually located. My wife and I reported it as an incorrect location on our phones.

The people who were interviewed said when people have stopped to ask for directions to the real Atlantic Station, many times they've helped the lost drivers correct the pin location on their iPhones.

Yet another example of how pathetic Apple Maps is.

Apple maps got me lost going to a job interview. Luckily, I had plenty of time and was able to make it on time, but still.

I didn't think that it was that bad until now, but yep, Google Maps for me.

Wow that's crazy lol!! I did the search my self and its very true. I also have google maps on my phone and I also search for Atlantic station with google and I got the correct spot for the mall. Apple us missing something!! Lol

Where?

They each show better/more updated pictures depending on where you look. Plenty of examples of both in this thread.

google gives a lot better quality pictures in my town than apple...but in the village where my parents live apple maps is better quality.

funny..

I just realized, Google Maps doesn't look as good as Apple Maps. Not to say that the old design is better. But it's just that the new design is just not that great.

It's just not.

Personal preference.

I think it looks great, has a modern feel to it.

You are right, Google Maps look really Android. Google Maps also performs like Android.

That's why I prefer Apple Maps.
