That was a very well written review. When he said its hard to tell the front from the back he is talking about by feeling. With the back no longer rounded and glass being on both sides slipping the phone out of your pocket and distinguishing the front from the back without looking is harder than before.

Well written? Are you daft? I wouldn't even really call that a review, just a bunch of semi-coherent nattering.

Can't tell the front from the back? Here's a tip:
When you reach in your pocket if your thumb encounters the earpiece slot or the home button, THAT'S THE FRONT.

It's not rocket science people...

I have been laughing about that as I pull my phone out of my pocket each time. I always put it in my pocket the same way every time, so guess what? The front is always facing me.

Gizmodo is a great blog. I'm glad they're not afraid to stick it to Apple and other companies when it comes to defend the consumer.

Apple had to be sour and take their invitation away from the WWDC. Real classy Apple...

Dearest Lord Jobs, to prevent your wonderfully engineered phone from dropping calls, I had to spend $30 to on your meager bumper. I beseech you to give me a refund or provide $30 credit in your iTunes temple.

The reason Giz has been posting so much about the iPhone is because the whole release has been a horribly messy affair, and it's all very uncharacteristic for Apple.

The iPhone is the most successful phone ever. It's becoming the most successful APPLE product ever, which says a lot. Everyone assumes that Apple products are going to be well-made and reliable, but this launch has seen pre-ordering nightmares of all sorts, a phone that seems to value design over function/practicality, and an official response that says "we did what we wanted to do. Deal with it."

I think it's marking a big turning point of some sort. It's just all very surprising given the situation, and the amount of coverage it's getting from NON-tech sites speaks to that.

I love reading Giz. I do think that they've changed their attitude toward Apple since the iPhone incident, and I think they honestly made their own beds with that one. However, I don't really feel like they're doing an unhealthy amount of reporting on this. Apple is showing a surprising amount of cracks in their normally perfect facade, and the iPhone is the biggest consumer product in recent history.

Why do some of you guys get so worked up over nothing. It's just an observation on the design. Over time yes most will get use to feeling for the home button or other spots to differentiate the front from the back. It's just an observation on how this phone feels different from other phones. I just think it was a good review because it didn't just spit out tech specs. It felt personal and it was entertaining.

Gizmodo acting like a dumped GF!!(or BF)

Ever since Apple excluded Gizmodo from WWDC event, Giz has been acting like a dumped GF who just can't let go.

Ok Apple dumped you for sleeping around but then you did cheat on them! C'mon guys get over it already.

Gizmodo has always been a sensationalist, second-rate tech blog.

Engadget4Ever!

Engadget is not without its faults either. I know well enough to stay away from an Android or iPhone review by Joshua Topolsky as he's more biased towards Apple than Pogue or Mossberg.

He should not be allowed to report on, or review, any android or apple phone. Ever!

He's rightly being called out for his bias in every article he posts now. Engadget used to be great but it's lost an awful lot of credibility over the last year or so. Josh is the main reason for it.

Why is it so hard to be objective? They're only phones...

The iPhone is the most successful phone ever.

Nokia and RIM would like to disagree.

In case you say that "Nokia makes lots of different phones", well sure, but the iPhone line is made up of 4 different phones. Just like sales figures and marketshare for Symbian is made up of many different phones.

What? Lol...

DID YOU READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE?

FAAAAAAAAAAANBOY NO YOU DIDNT.

Here, let me provide you with some KEY excerpt from the article...

"I keep picking up the phone, looking inside, and finding things to do. I want to use it."

"I can't go back to the 3GS. The speed, the camera, the screen, the non-humpback, the video chatting. Once you have it, you can't give it up."

"But I'm scared. Not of dropping calls because I'm holding it wrong—I'm scared for data. I can never hold the phone naturally because I'm afraid I'm getting a quarter of the speeds I was getting before."

"You love it too much, and you can't give it up, but something's wrong. So like most, I focus on the good qualities. The speed, the camera, the screen. So what if he throws a tantrum when I hold him wrong? He's my boy."

"The iPhone will be there. It's the camera that counts, the camera that's with you when you get into a traffic accident, when someone's about to do something stupid, when you're doing something you've never done before."

"Then I forget. My hand slips down to the accustomed position, covering up the antenna with meat and sweat and humanity. The call maintains. There's ever-so-slightly more distortion in the voice, but I can still hear the other person fine"

"The engineers have lost. The industrial designers have won."

"I try to put down the phone, only to get bored and pick it up at the next red light."

"The last time I charged the phone was yesterday morning, and it's already past noon today. 20%—not bad. Better than the 3GS, because the battery is bigger. Still, good thing I turned off Bluetooth."

Read the damn thing for yourself before you start crying bias. God dam, man...

RIM is losing it's Marketshare to Android. Prove me otherwise.

Unless RIM gets their business together, they will be only used for Business. If somebody better comes along and does business better, they will have fanboys left.

They aren't wowing anybody. Their phones are crap, archaic, and nobody wants an exposed keyboard anymore. Again, maybe if you're in business, you might.

What? Lol...

It's nice that you spent all that time quoting bits from the Gizmodo review.

If you'd paid half as much attention to my post you would have noticed that I was talking about Josh from engadget...

Well the bumper does't do squat...mine does it with a bumper, a case, a rubber glove, shoved up my cats butt, whatever....

Sitting here on the couch it has 5 bars soon as I pick it up it goes to zilch. What gets me is my wifes phone doesn't do it.

In the end gizmodo clowns need to do some more homework and see that the bumper does not fix the problem. Quite frankly they can shove their bumper petition where the sun don't shine.

I think I am gonnna start a petition for world peace...bout as useless as a fing free bumper.

That Jason Chen article almost made me fall asleep. Seriously, I'd rather read Thoreau or Emerson.

Also they are claiming that one of the chief problems with the phone is that the screen will crack if you drop it too much. Give me a break.

I've had the phone since Thurs and haven't had one dropped call, yellow spot, or scratch on the screen even after dropping twice.

same here but I only dropped mine once!

I want to get a free bumper. But I never ever sign on the gizmodo, a blog site. If you don't want to use iPhone 4 or don't be satisfied with it, you can return it anytime within 30 days.
