It really depends on what you need to do. You can't categorically say 8GB is enough.

Anyway, I've just put a 512GB Crucial MX100 in my 2011 MBP with a fresh Yosemite install. It absolutely screams - I love it, and means keeping this until 2016ish should be easy. The only problem I had was installing iWork 09, but eventually I got it to work so it's all fine!

Ok well for most 8 is enough. Unless your career is photo intesive or video intensive 8 is probably ok.

I actually wish I had gotten 16 but I use my computer a lot.

And yea I love SSD's.

LOL, That was a TV show that ended right about the time OP's Commodore 64 was introduced.


On topic: I still have my 2010 15 MBP with 8GB RAM and the Samsung 840, including the very latest firmware fix for the SSD, running Mountain Lion like a champ. Still my main work horse, pushing it daily with CS6. I intend to keep ML on this 5 year old machine, which helps keep it very fast.
