The reason I choose Firefox over Safari is that it doesn't have an ad-blocker add-on that is as effective as Ad-Block Plus and Filterset G updater on Firefox.

I don't remember the last time I saw an advertisement on a web page with that combination, and to me, an ad-free web experience is worth the extra resources Firefox takes :)

macworld expo jan 14-18

does anyone have some extra tickets to macworld (along with plane tickets and a hotel room near the moscone center) that they don't want?:apple::):apple:

Congrats on the new Mac Pro.

The applications you downloaded should then be mounted as a disk image on your desktop. After you open the disk image, and install the apps, or drag them to the applications folder to install them, they will be in the Applications folder, waiting for you to launch them.

Happy Macing. :apple:

Thanks for the congrats. It's been several years and, good grief, I needed an upgraded computer. My photo editing software had gotten so sticky on my PC. My clients were waiting another 2-3 days for me to process their photos.

Now, it is really unbelievable. With just 1 GB RAM it is faster than my old Sony Vaio was out of the box. I'll add another 8 GB's Monday for a total of 9 GB's so that I can run all the post processing that is required. And, it is so much easier to organize work flow. Of course, I am just using Nikon Capture, which I really enjoy, and have got photoshop cs3 on the way.

This forum has been a lot of help and only a couple of folks have ragged me about my PC use.:apple::)

Is it on Mac version, It's run so poorly under Rosetta (Intel Mac) due unable to load the java, except for PPC Mac.

It is the Mac version. Assuming you mean CS3 and Capture. Nikon support was more than happy to allow me to switch from PC to Mac software.

The CS3 I had to purchase. I only stopped doing darkroom work a year or so ago and had only purchased PhotoShop CS up til now. As I shoot Nikon digital and film that was all I needed.

Just got it set up and I have a lot to learn. What happens to downloads such as Thunderbird and FireFox when they are installed and do not appear anywhere that I can find.

I was expecting Tiger and got Leopard. Interesting. Gotta check out the Nikon site to see if the probs with Capture NX are sorted out yet. this is Leopard 10.5.1. Any thoughts?

I use Firefox on my Mac Pro, Safari on my MacBook Pro (both work fine, my expectations of a browser are such that it's not enough impetus to overcome my laziness in downloading and installing Firefox on the MacBook Pro).

I use Nikon Capture NX and PhotoShop CS3 on both machines, both running Leopard 10.5.1. They work very well. NX is especially fast on the Mac Pro...I have 9 gig RAM and have two 500 gig drives running in RAID 0 as the scratch disk and image storage. NX is faster than I've ever had any version of Nikon Capture work for me on a Windows machine for RAW editing. The Nikon Capture NX disk has both Mac and Windows versions on it, and the auto-update aspect of it has worked for me without a problem.

That's good to hear. I just edited some vineyard photos that I shot a few weeks ago with the RB67. They were in TIFF format and NX just nailed the contrast and color rendition. What I enjoy with NX as, opposed to my older version of CS, is the intuitiveness that NX allows its user. I have yet to use CS3 as I just ordered it and the old CS is PC version. I am not ready to attempt Windows on this MAC. Not sure that I would want to at this time. I still have the PC and I plan to reformat it and use it for any windows apps that I need.

Thanks for the NX feedback. Really appreciated.

I believe that RAW editing with NX is vastly more accurate and gives better results than RAW editing in CS3. I shoot only in RAW, edit the RAW functions (including sharpening), then, if I need cropping with uprezzing or layering, I save as JPEG and open it in CS3. I use two monitors.

I only shoot RAW as well, but I always use Lightroom to process shots - it's a much more elegant interface than the combination of Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) plus a klutzy file browser in Bridge.

I've tried Aperture, and I find it to be a bit "Control heavy" - too many controls and buttons in a small space...feels a bit cramped and overwhelming. I like the modular style of Lightroom a lot better :)

So you're enjoying the Mac Pro? I'm waiting 2 more weeks to see if it's updated at Macworld, and let's put it this way - I'm buying one on the 15th or 16th either way :)
