This is the first iPhone I’ve seen with burn in. Literally.
My mom’s two year old X has burn-in from Facebook, because she basically lives on Facebook.

This could also be image retention, which is temporary, and not actual burn-in.

Yes, you should exchange the phone for either issue. I’m exchanging my green Pro Max because of a faulty power button: I have to press very hard on the lower half of the button (I’m holding it wrong ;)), and the click often fails.

Definitely replace.

The strange thing is that I couldn't screenshot the effect. It can only be photographed. Can the actual pixel burn-in be screenshotted?

I think it makes sense that the screenshot wouldn't show the retention. A screenshot isn't a photograph, so it's not going to show things like color shifts and defects unique to your display.

No surprised - again, I’m not a big fan of OLEDs for that, and many other reasons. IPS LCD will remain superior on many fronts, specifically longevity and reliability. The move to OLED was driven as a #MeToo gimmick and endorsed by decision makers that have no understanding of these issues and only value appearances (OLED, at first, looks pretty).
So you believe Apple has no understanding of oled and it’s a #metoo gimmick. Balderdash.

IPS lcd has its own sets of distinct issues.

Is this a widespread problem or isolated? As someone who plays a lot of video games on my phone this would be a deal breaker.
