Can anyone post it on YouTube?

Here ya go:

Apple's SuperDrive can be heard over the sound of a normal diesel truck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oLlW64UdQ8

Apple's superdrive sounds come through a standard chat headset: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GIn07_ljcU

No, I'm sorry I shouldn't have exploited a child. He IS obviously a Mac Rumors regular poster here tho! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhzszBVbvQE :)

But all seriousness aside:

My g5 can get loud, but its not the loudest I've had by and stretch of the imagination. The case design definitely plays a factor in the noise though, its the cost of good air flow.

My preferred analogy is "its like a hovercraft accelerating in my face"

It's so true! :D

On another note, do you really have to remove the front cover when you install a drive in a Pro? That seems ... I was going to say annoying, but it's Apple, so it's actually wonderful and innovative. ;)

Of all the things to complain about... Seriously? I fart louder than the drive. Unless you are sitting 3 inches from your MP and are playing a video at 20 decibels, it really doesn't matter.

Are you kidding me? Just so you know, with my workspace the tower is about a foot away from my head.

So yeah, it's freakin' loud and annoying.

Oi! - let us bitch in peace!

im waiting to spit a 100 for a plextor.
the built in one isnt very very good... (beside being loud)

"Outrageously loud"? Yes indeed. Re-installing a trimmed OS X on my new MacPro had me wondering what kind of ill-mannered beast Apple had sent me. Had to leave the room for a while. Luckily I don't use the superdrive very often! It's a bit of a shame since otherwise this mac is by far the quietest I have owned, desktops or laptops. Only other noisy bit is the fan spinup at power-on, thankfully brief. This I have to do more frequently, because unfortunately I haven't yet sorted out why my MacPro won't sleep (wakes back up a few seconds later). I'm determined to solve this though...

I picked up a Mac Pro yesterday, tried burning a CD today and I thought my computer was going to explode

Is it possible to replace the SuperDrive with something else? Like a blu-ray burner or something.

I can't imagine if I used this to watch a movie or something, it'd be insane
