Bye bye

Now please don't feel the need to hang around here be bash your former phone, cause really, no one cares.

Have you asked everyone if they cared or not? No? So you don't know if no one cares. Welcome to the Internet, the place where everyone has different opinions.

I thought the Galaxy Nexus was a tablet, not a phone?

Nexus is the Google brand for their hardware. Nexus 7 is the name of the tablet.

FWIW, I just tried Jelly Bean today, and I will say as an Apple fan it's really quite amazing. Clearly iOS and Android are both great in their own way for different people. iOS = simplicity and straight forwardness. Android = make the way you want it. To each his/her own.

Windows still sucks though :D

I have an iPhone 4S, a Motorola RAZR, and previously owned the original Droid for 2 years before the 4S. Android is nice and all, but the apps are what swayed me to iOS. They're just better made and more plentiful with the App Store vs Google Play.
IMO apps are the biggest deciding factor between mobile OSs.

Is this your first Android device?
I couldn't agree more. Apps are why I've bought an iPod touch (my phone is an old HTC Desire) and a Mac. The apps developed for Apple's platforms are way superior. The responsiveness is also better on iOS, mainly because of the touchscreen.

But I'm really curious about the life span of your Nexus. Will 5.0 come to your new device, too? And will it run at least as smoothly as 4.1, or will it lag? My Desire was first launched in 2010 and it's stuck at 2.2. And it was one of the best Android devices when it came out.

This is an argument that no one will ever win....

The main difference is not the usability or speed of one particular app or function...Apple excels in some and Google excels in others (and in the case of a phone, maybe more than Apple).

But that doesn't matter to me...not because I'm some sort of Apple fanboy....it's because Apples plan of single software integration is a good plan and working well for someone like me.

People who just want a phone and need that as their primary or only device would probably prefer Google with all of its configurability.

For various reasons, I need a phone, a tablet and a computer that are synced as closely as possible...and utilise the same features, graphics, basic UI...this is what Apple is doing and still working on...and it is obviously working based on their sales.

Wow...

Oh thank you for showing me the "door". Because if I don't own an iPhone and am not posting about it being "superior to all other smartphones" then I don't belong here.

Really? Who is the whiny fanboy here? This is simply a post about how major updates to the biggest competing mobile OSs, is causing me to change what I use for my daily cell phone.

So... the fact that I own 2 iPod Touch that will run iOS6 means I still have an interest in this OS. I still own an iMac. I am still a fan of Apple. So why should I leave these forums? Because I just said how I just switch from an iPhone to a Nexus?

A bit hypocritical, surely? The overall usefulness of Android 4.1 vs iOS 6 is 200%? How did you come up with that figure? I'm neutral, I own both Android and iOS devices and I agree that in some respects the Android OS has more functionality, but not that much more.

Also. IOS six is not out yet...least we forget.

Congrats. Do you feel better about yourself now that you've told us?

Not really. I don't usually feel the need to post on internet forums to "feel better about myself." I am not sure if this is something you practice. I guess some people have different ways of emotionally supporting themselves. If you feel the need to post something to feel better, then more power to you.

I am simply starting a discussion of how iOS 6 left me wanting more and how Android was able to lure me in when it comes to my personal cell phone. I mean this is a DISCUSSION FORUM, right?

LOL there are people here who thinks that Apple is a part of their family because they bought an iDevice. There are some who even defended Apple dropping EPEAT a few days back. My house is full of Apple gear and nothing else, but I also ordered a Nexus 7 to see what Google brings. Apple is becoming too slow to adppt, they are now as cool as Microsoft was in the late 90s. Getting rid of Google Maps is basically a bad decision in my humble opinion. Google gets search info from basically everyone online, whereas Apple only gets mobile iOS user data. Guess who can offer a better product?

You sound like you think only Google sells your stuff.

Because Apple is totally clean. If you knew all the things corporations do to your private info...

absolutely not. but apple has been in the tech business striving to make the best products for years. google has been striving to make the most on advertising since inception.

The only reason why the responses are so negative is because these types of posts have basically flooded these forums and people are a bit weary.

@MozMan68 great point, you have succinctly summed up the differences between the platforms nicely. Apple will be fine and for the near future so will Android as they both serve their respective markets well.

We're really talking about ecosystems now and the idea is going to be to entrench users into an ecosystem. Apple's strategy thusfar has be superior here with the Mac, iOS and Apple TV. But Google is keeping things close. Exciting stuff that delivers great product to us all.

You think a guy from "Cult of Mac" isn't biased? At this point I'd say the responsiveness difference is maybe about...5%. And the functionality and overall usefulness of Android 4.1 vs iOS 6 is maybe about...200%, if not more. I know which one I would (and did) pick. Sorry, it's not close anymore.

If you knew who he was and had read/listened to his work then you'd know he wasn't.

The touch responsiveness on Android is close, but not yet as as fluid, as iOS.

I can feel the difference. If you can't, kudos to you.

It's a constant struggle for market dominence. Apple has demonstrated in the past the ability to present vast leaps in technological engineering, but with that, also a fear of letting go of the past.

They're falling behind this time around the track because they're sitting on former success as a guide for the future.

Android, Samsung, HTC, etc. are showing constant change in technology, while risky, can also turn out to be a method for true growth.

That's bunk and anyone that knows anything about Apple know's it's bunk.

Apple has never been a chase market share for the sake of market share only company. They will never cater to the flavor of the week crowd.

And Apple is resting on their laurels? That's easy to say from the perspective of companies that do nothing but wait for Apple to introduce a new product, then proceed to copy and steal from Apple, giving the illusion that they are making innovative products.

Yes, an Apple discussion forum. If you feel insecure, you should be discussing Android on an Android forum, unless you're apart of some marketing schematic.

Shouldn't we let Apple ship their 2012 device and OS before we rush to judgement? HTC and Samsung has released their new hardware and Google has already shipped 4.1. Is it really fair to judge Apple based on some sketchy part leaks and a beta version of iOS vs their competition's finished products?

Actually I care. I found the OP's post very interesting and as a all-out apple user am interested in other peoples choices in alternatives.

Ironically, I think it is your presence that is unwanted. Please return to your hole and let us continue our discussion.

As much as I agree that apple is slow to adopt, it is interesting looking at the recent Mountain Lion issue which has seen the dropping of Airplay mirroring for semi-new hardware.

People will complain when Apple don't move fast enough, but also where taking advantage of recent hardware at the expense dropping support for old hardware more quickly occurs.

I think Apple is playing with the balance still.

But I am on an iOS forum discussing what the OS is lacking and doing wrong and why I am getting away from using it now and switching.

----------

Oh. My 64GB White AT&T 4S sold for $560.

I just can't get past the vast app disparity between the two platforms. For me, I consider the OS as a portal to run apps. I play tons of small games. Android may have a lot of features and customization, but I still feel like they are pretty far behind in apps. For example, I don't really care that much about Matching with Friends, it's a fun little time waster. But that came from a pretty major developer Zynga. I am sure it will make it's way to Android in the coming months. But that always seems like the same old pattern to me that isn't changing. And that's a major developer. There are tons of little developers who make great little games as well that wouldn't even consider developing for Android. And yes, I own a Touchpad running ICS, so I know what's available and what's not.

I recently bought the Nexus 7 (still waiting for it to arrive), so it's not that I hate Android. But I didn't buy my Nexus 7 to play games, I bought it mainly as more portable device with a larger screen. And for me, the Nexus 7 was priced right as the device to serve that purpose.

Personally I'm back from 24hrs of Galaxy Nexus & JellyBean. Yes I too have heavy investment on ios ecosystem: yet my laptop has been sold 30days ago only the Mac Mini remains.

Exchange 2010 ActiveSync is HUGELY problematic for setup without 3rd party app Touchdown to do this - I do have admin access to exchange management/exchange shell and confirmed active sync is enabled.

Also odd is what apps are trending on Play - tweak hacks to enable things that should be there: camera filters, picture capture with volume button, take picture when pw locked, etc. JB is finally modern and polished but not yet there. Pentile screen quality is not great -the size is and I'm praying for a 4.1-4.6" iPhone 5 screen with no glass back.

Dal band WLAN on 5ghz is Sweet on Galaxy Nexus!!

Why can I not download all apps not installed? Why doesn't Play allow me option to auto install when I sign into my Google account on a new device?! ITunes at least allows me to download all my apps with 1 touch and a sign-on. This is where the polish is missing.

The screen size of the iPhone is big enough a deal killer - add to that the 4.1 stuff - Google Now, Navigation, Real Chrome, Polish and Butter, Great Multitasking and it quickly becomes impossible to consider the iPhone.

Ready to throw away my iPad after my Nexus 7 arrives - just wish there was a iTunes U clone for Android.

No iTunes U competition is VERY odd considering the wealth of information & the very nature of open source for information available to Google! They should be ashamed really > but maybe it's something their working on.

if Google was to launch Project Live today (along for those with glasses) even at $1500 with its own 3G & CPU unit imbedded I'd be so there!! What I find most odd is Google's insistence in separating it's maps, latitude, driving apps ??? I don't even know what Latitude does different from Maps?? maybe cause I don't drive yet (glasses arrive on Friday! Then course & test for G2; long overdue). To me it would make sense to unify them all into a single app for ALL platforms with a simple UI to their features. No need for multiple separation.

I'm going to hang onto my Nexus for another week and retry but it's not looking good thus far. I may just trade it or sell it for a Sony Xperia S/Ion - I know those devices don't compare but at least the UI is refined, performance even on Gingerbread is good (active sync works!!), and pictures with a dedicated button is present along with lok screen!

Exchange 2010 ActiveSync is HUGELY problematic for setup

Why can I not download all apps not installed? Why doesn't Play allow me option to auto install when I sign into my Google account on a new device?!

ActiveSync used to be problematic with 2.2 and below Google releases (ODM releases worked) but since Gingerbread I have not had/heard of any issue. I have used it with Exchange 2010 daily with 2.3.6, 3.2 and now 4.1.

About the apps - if you check backup and restore in settings - the apps are auto installed unless there is permissions change or version incompatibility. Not sure why you are not seeing that behavior.
