For what it's worth... Ran Fancy Speed Test for Blackberry OS and got these results:

Cellular -> Clifton, NJ (closest to me)-> 2 MB file
1.2 mbps download, 75.2 kbps upload
235 kbps, 55 kbps
305 kbps, 67 kbps
400 kbps, 65 kbps
585 kbps, 75 kbps

Wifi
2.9 mbps, 360 kbps
4.8 mbps, 375 kbps
31. mbps, 340 kbps

Cellular 2 (Baltimore) -> 2 MB
522 kbps, 66 kbps
798 kbps, 81 kbps
579 kbps, 57 kbps

To whoever said something about their pre working great up until 2010, I agree. My Touch pro would get speeds of almost 2mb all the time until 2010...something defiantly happened that year, now I pull about .8 average.

It was android , the only phone from sprint to be in top 5 smartphones (1.iphone 4 , 2. iPhone 3GS , 3. Htc evo 4G....)

I saw that too during late 2010 and almost all year 2011 , at the end of 2011 it got better in my area and I could watch YouTube again( it was a pain before summer 11 ) now my iPhone works fine on the now network

I called Sprint again after running my Speed Tests and they said they would reprovision the device. I don't think that's going to do a damn thing and I'm getting more and more frustrated by the minute because it sounds like the tower near me might be a Sprint Partner 3G Carrier which is what's causing my upload to be throttled to 70 kbps or lower (per the Sprint Data Chart on their speeds).

However I'm certainly not roaming because there's a separate bill section for roaming data despite the fact that I'm unlimited.

So, I was told by technical support that I will be getting a better data speed when all the registration finishes within an hour. I'll re-run the speed tests but again, I'm not holding my breath.

The big question is if 70 kbps is a limitation of my Blackberry, or if my iPhone will also be restricted to 70 kbps too. That's just unacceptable speed, anyway you slice it.

I'm not sure what to do now. If I wait until my upgrade I go into another billing cycle and if I cancel mid-cycle I lose out on the remaining month. Not sure if Sprint pro-rates or not. I can upgrade on 1/18 or I can leave Sprint to AT&T by 1/11 for the new plan. Activation is waived with AT&T and I'd have the same exact features and plan I have now, excluding unlimited data, and I'd go down from 1500 minutes shared to 700 (but, we only use 200 per month and now we get rollover if we need it).

My ETF with Sprint is $50 per line (2 lines) regardless of whether or not I cancel NOW or wait until mid-April when my contract ends.

I know there are a bunch of posts on this thread that show people have used over 1 GB of data within the first week of their new iPhone, but I just realistically don't see how I can do that with the slower upload and download speeds I'm getting.

I opened Macrumors.com Mobile Site on my Blackberry over 3G and it took between 50 and 75 seconds to load, every time. Over wifi, luckily, this was around 10 and 15 seconds, every time. The Blackberry was actually FASTER rendering the Wifi page than my iPod Touch 1st Gen, but I think that's moreso because the Blackberry is newer.

Anyway, while Download is certainly an important factor, I can live with the advertised 3G speeds on an iPhone, but the 70 kbps upload's gotta go. I take lots of pictures as is with my Blackberry and upload (takes forever) to Facebook and other social sites and e-mail them to family/friends, and with the better quality of the iPhone pictures, I shudder at the thought of how long it would take to do a single file.

The title of this thread alone makes me unable to stop quoting Mortal Kombat

Forget where I read this, - but on Sprint when using a partners 3G (usually Verizon) it doesn't count as roaming but rather isn't seen as any different from you being on Sprint's 3G.

Good to know. I guess we will mess with the phones on our 14-day mbg, and if the speeds are bad we will return them and leave for AT&T at the end of our billing cycle. I've used both AT&T and Verizon versions of the iPhone 4S at work so I know what they're capable of, but nobody besides me has Sprint.

man this crap is getting worse it was ok for a little now since new years its gone back to crapola

There is no way I could pay for data on the Sprint network right now. I would either be getting some type of credit each month or would get out of my contract. Something would happen.

I have no issues on Long Island. Infact its very good. However, in parts of the Bronx I've noticed issues. But thats just where I work, as long as it works at home I'm happy.

Happy with Sprint here in Woodside, New York City. Consistant 2.4mb dl and .80 up. Btw... How do o por pics from my iPhone here?

Sorry for the bad quality, I took it with my auto-focus less Bold 9900.

Why didn't you just take a screenshot? Hit the sleep and home buttons at the same time, it's a lot easier.

I did take a screen shot but when I tried to attach the photo it wouldn't let me go into my "pc" to select the photo from camera roll. So I used the Bold to take the pic and upload it.

Look into getting TapaTalk for your phone, it cost a few $$ but you can upload pics from it very easily.

So there is no way for the iPhone to attach a photo to the post without a third party app? That sucks. 1 point for the Blackberry! *grabs flame suit* jking!

To be honest, I've never tried. LOL I've been using TapaTalk for years now, I've paid that developer several times, as I switched phones.

Nope you cant add anything with safari (it would probably cause a whole for jail breakers) and yeah I used tapatalk as well trust me is worth it I had it for over 3 years now bought it for android and iPhone and is well worth the money, I just wish they updated for the iPad with iPad mode or wtv

My sprint 3g speeds

I signed up for mobile broadband with Sprint several years before they capped usage at gigs so I am grandfathered into the unlimited plan. I am referring to the USB dongle that provides PC's with 3g based internet. I have always found it to be quite fast and love sprint as a provider overall. My phone is on my father's family plan with Verizon to save me some money, and I must say I HATE Verizon as a company.

Here is my speedtest with sprint:

Typically I am downloading files at 150 KBps

(But honestly I would not be able to deal with a cap of any kind)

Hmm. 150 Kilobytes per second should put you just over 1 Mbps down, seems like that's pretty consistent with what you posted. I'd be very happy with 0.5 Megabits uploadk that'd give me around 75 kilobytes. That's certainly a lot better than the 70 kiloBITS i'm getting right now.

It's very annoying why speeds are measured in bits and files are typically measured in bytes. A marketing ploy, no doubt.

agreed

yes it drives me crazy. pick a unit of measure and stick to it, and obviously KB and MB prevail over Kb and Mb. Marketing ploy indeed..

Edit: keep in mind those speeds are not on a smartphone. I cannot vouch for that. And also I live in the middle of nowhere in a place that according to sprint coverage map, I have no service. I keep my dongle in the window and broadcast wifi with it. I always have full service in the window, but if I were to stick in into my laptop anywhere else in my house I'd have 1 bar, and it would sometimes drop to 1xrtt. Driving with it though, it is great everywhere.
