For over a year now, in the Boise/Nampa, ID areas, I've been experiencing 25k (slower than dial-up) to 300k 3G speeds (half of their lowest advertised 3G) and averaging 75k - 150k 75% of the time.

I've called them and talked to just about every level possible; in short, they wouldn't say or do anything, and insisted the cause was because my phone was 'rooted' and had a 'custom rom' installed on it, therefore, it's my fault, and not their ****** ass network. I explained how 6+ of my friends with EVOs also experienced slow speeds, but of course, they refuse comment or check on anything besides your phone and the tower closest to your house, when in reality, it's 9 out of 10 of their towers that are complete ****. I gave up.

I got a new iPhone 4S and did some speed tests on my way home tonight:

Route can be seen here: http://g.co/maps/2h8ut

Siri didn't work once on the way home.

Also, they supposedly did a 'capacity upgrade' (not network vision) to the tower 2.5 miles S.W. of my house (from the ending point on the map above) on Sept. 30th (the last day of the given time-frame, of course). From the evening of the 30th until the afternoon of the 1st Oct., I got 1000k (1mbps); since then, I haven't seen it over 300k, and it's usually exactly where it's been for a year (75k - 150k)

I'm going to hound Sprint nonstop until they fix their network, I'm paying absolutely nothing, or I get out ETF free with my iPhone 4S.

I've never dealt with a company with a worse company. Their employees lie constantly. No one has the same answer about anything. They deserve to go bankrupt as far as I'm concerned. They make stupid choices and never seem to finish/complete anything. They're a complete flustercuck of a company.

P.S. Doesn't everyone just love paying $10 extra a month for 'Unlimited Premium Data'...as if it was humanly possible to use more than 2GBs a month with their speeds.

If it's any consolation I'm sure apple is fuming that Sprint's poor network is hindering the user experience on the 4S. I'm not convinced Sprint can easily fix their problems, but I'm sure Apple is going to bat for you guys.

Too slow to use in Austin. If not better by next week goodbye Sprint!

However all these speed tests are not helping.

Apples to Oranges once again.
Do people compare gas mileage on the same vehicle when they don't use the same brand and octane of gas?

Ever since Sprint rolled out 4G in 2008, their 3G networks have been neglected.
However my real world speed is fine (Safari, E-mail, YouTube etc), I'm not downloading torrents, I don't need it to be faster.

How about we compare:
my unlimited data ~$70 bill with Sprint
my brother's limited data ~$100 bill with AT&T
my girlfriend's limited data ~$100 bill with Verizon

Wow! That is abysmally slow. We are talking about sub dial-up speeds? I was dead set on getting the 4s for my family on Sprint. Now, I will wait it out another month and hope this is only early network congestion.

Anyone have the 4s on Sprint in Los Angeles? I'm in the San Gabriel Valley so any input is appreciated.

Dial UP is 56kbps.

My worst speed tests are 10 times faster than that, and most are at around 1mbps, which is 20 times faster than dial up.It is the same speed as a low-end DSL connection, and it is more than good enough IMO.

First off I live in Orlando and I don't think I ever averaged 1mbps on 3G I could only get around 2mbps on 4g anyway the problem I'm having here is that my roommates Evo(gave him mine) is getting around 800kbps on average on 3G. However my iPhone 4s sitting right next to him on the same server is getting around 100kbps on average. so it has to be something with the iPhone maybe sprint is lowering it's speeds. Or maybe my **** is messed up I chatted with sprint and they refreshed my network which did absolutely nothing. I feel my Evo is faster on my roommates service because he was getting 4g speeds of 5mbps and I could never get my Evo that high. But I never got speeds as slow as the iPhone sometimes I'm averaging 10-50kbps a lot of the time. This is horse ****

Here in Chicago on Sprint, I'm seeing 0.40 Mbps download and 0.05 Mbps upload. I am far from happy with Sprint.

With my EVO 4G on 3G, I would see between 1.20 Mbps and as high as 1.80 Mbps in Chicago.

i dont know why but i feel like sprint might have throttled everyone with an iphone so we dont crash there network

What good is unlimited data if the speed is so slow you can't actually use more than 800 MB a month anyway?

Ping: 136ms
Down: 1.91Mbps
Up: 0.23 Mbps

Very very happy with that result. This is as good as I've ever gotten from Sprint in the past couple of years. It really must have been some sort of launch-related slowdown or something, my speeds have increased pretty consistently every day.

I just tried again on a different server and got

155ms
1.98Mbps
0.13Mbps

The download speed and ping are more than good enough IMO, but there is something up with that upload speed.

Where are you at?

SoCal

First test was to a server in SF and the second was in LA.

I have not had 2mbps downloads on sprint over 3G in a very long time. I'm wondering if they might have flipped some switches and worked some magic in the past couple of days, because it was never this fast even before the iPhone came out.

Me too, I'm in Tustin Hills. I've gotten 2.2mpbs a few times, but mostly it's like 0.3-0.8.

Who says you can't?

Mind you, I have also been using my phone a lot less now, since being layed off (twice), from Sprint eighteen months ago (ironic, huh).
But coming from BlackBerries, the iPhone4S is definitely faster as far as 3G speeds.

you must have a lot of time to waste. should totally be proud of that!

I just ran my att 4s in atlanta and got
Ping-66ms
Download-5.39Mbps
Upload-1.19Mbps
I'm pretty pleased!

834 947 kilobytes = 0.796267509 gigabytes

So your highest month doesn't even come close to meeting the cap of one of the other much faster networks.

If you want to really show it being worth it, post some months with more than 2 gigabytes.

The Sprint usage chart does not go back further than the previous months shown.
The point was to illustrate that you can clearly use more than 800MB per month.
There are people who also use their phone for tethering and rack up close to 5GB a month.
If speed is a concern there is a reason 4G and LTE markets are out.

Exactly. If people stopped running the speed tests, the Sprint Network would be AWESOME! It is the speed tests that are the "real" issue...not the entire network slowing down for millions

I got the Sprint Iphone on release day (that night). Here is my usage so far through today :

Sprint 3G Data
841,047KB / Unlimited

See details
1 GB = 1,048,576 KB
1 MB = 1,024 K

So yeah, people who are just looking at the speed test and comparing it over and over again are borderline stupid. All I know is I'm using the phone as much as I want, and don't have to be worried about being already at almost 1GB of data after a handful of days.

Yup I got over 1gb for my billing cycle and closed to half of a One GB on my iPhone 4 since Friday afternoon so yeah sprint works for me

I'm curious... what do you do to use that much data?

I can't download anything from the app store as it takes way too long

do you constantly use pandora or something?

i can't imagine email and websites taking very long at all
