Don't bother with another watch for now. If something causes you physical pain, stop doing it. Spend your time and money getting a full evaluation by a doctor as suggested by multiple posters here.
OMG, your medical opinion is to get a doctor what makes you qualified to suggest that. The cause and effect is proven, the doctor will just say stop wearing the watch. The point is the watch has an inherent flaw and should be addressed by Apple or else there will be a lawsuit at some point.
 
Not ridiculous at all, I had similar pain/sensation when trying the Series 4, happened on both wrists so I went back to the Series 3 which had always been fine. I wondered if the sapphire or ceramic on the back was causing some issues, maybe the new (at the time) Bluetooth, hard to know. Will see how the Series 6 works out that recently arrived.
Any issues with the Series 6? Just had to return mine for wrist pain, thinking I might try Series 3.
 
I know exactly what you are referring to. I bought an Series 6 with Cellular, was loving the functionality. But after a few days my wrist was sore which made me think I was positioning my hand differently when holding arm up to look at display. I removed the watch for 24 hours and the pain went away, I then tried to wear it again and the pain was back quickly. I searched forums and found many similar stories and promptly returned the watch. Mac Fan Boy's will be quick to dismiss this issue as go see a doctor but the cause and effect is clear. The electronic gadgetry is causing this pain, I'm sure Apple is very aware but figures that most people won't believe it and they can get away with it. Do a search on Google, you will find many cases.
I just got the SE 44mm and after 5 days I started feeling a very odd pain in my wrist. I've exchanged it for the 40mm and just waiting for the pain to go away and try it again. I don't know if may be because the new arm/wrist movement and looking at it very often or because some electromagnetics.

Have you tried wearing the watch on the other wrist to see if you get the pain to transfer to the other side?....
 
I have nerve damage from illness (not carpel tunnel but was initially thought to be, so similar initial symptoms) which causes a lot of pain in my wrists and hands. At its worst, I couldn't bear any touch at all. even years later, I find that heavier watch bands really trigger the pain, even if they're quite loose or I'm lying down. A simple change of band mitigates the problem for me, even though I'm always very aware of it. I always have some pain though, and other things cause a lot of pain so I know how much it sucks. I hope you get it sorted :)
 
Curious if anybody else on here has had wrist pain while wearing their Apple Watch?

I just sold my Apple Watch series 4 cellular due to very strange pain. It started a few weeks ago, just putting the watch on, even if laying down with little to no pressure, was causing me a lot of pain around my wrist and into my hand. At first I thought it might be pushing on a nerve in the wrist but after noticing similar pain just laying down without as much full pressure on the wrist, I'm now wondering if it might have to do with some of the frequencies being emitted from the device (not sure if this is scientifically sound...).

All of which makes me wonder, if in a year or two apple is about to be slammed with some epic class action lawsuits for their health device causing physical harm to people.

Of note I had three apple watches in total over the past 3 years and the pain began a few weeks ago. removing the watch causes the pain the slightly linger for a few hours then is completely gone.

thoughts? anyone else?
I have the same problem! I get an aching pain in my forearm and around my wrist. So I take it off & within an hour the pain subsides

It might be a mild case of carpal tunnel interacting with this strange phenomenon, but really nothing else has changed. I feel completely good without wearing it, and literally within 30secs to 1 minute after putting it on, it's uncomfortable and painful. Instead of going through all the hassle of seeing doctors, it was much more obvious to just sell the damn thing and let my wrist heal from whatever the hell is going on, then re-evaluate trying the watch again in 1-2 months (e.g. buy a new one). that's my current plan. Of note im very healthy guy and take good care of myself.

I would be very surprised if I'm the only one here -- anyone else?
I have the same issue....it causes nerve pain. I keep adjusting the band.....this is my 6th watch, so not a "newbie"

You sort of started out not too bad there, but then you veered straight into Crazyville; and let me explain why…

You putting a multi-material weight around your wrist is causing you to experience certain things; that's not something that we have to debate (unless we're given reasons to believe you lying, ofc).

But you went from that straight all the way to specifically Apple knowingly selling a defective product causing physical harm. Not something about watches in general, but the AW specifically.

If that leap had been physical you would have gotten a special invitation to the olympics (as soon as they figured out how to get you back from whatever orbit/lagrange point you'd ended up in).

I've never had "pain" per-se with any of my Apple watches I've worn for years. I did have some allergy issues though.

  • My first Apple watch was the original OG Apple watch. It had a plastic backing which caused my skin to react. I replaced that one with a stainless steel version during the return period. The stainless steel version had the ceramic back. No problems since then. I think now all of the watches have a ceramic backing or they changed something as I never reacted to the watch body again. Currently I have an Apple Watch SE.
  • I had some issue with the Sports band. Same thing allergy. I think it was more a matter of moisture accumulating and the strap not breathing, rather than the material itself. I have since gone to the sport loop and have no issues.

Not sure what is causing your pain, but if I had to venture a guess I'd assume carpel tunnel or an old wrist injury somehow being aggravated by the geometry of the watch and where wearing it puts pressure.

Did you try the other wrist?

Also I do get irritation in the summer if I leave my watch on at full tightness for long periods but that's my skin issue. Loosening up a notch or two fixes this, I tighten it up when I'm actually working out.
 
Can't remember if I posted here before but I had / have this problem.

For me, I'm pretty sure it's my home office and Covid. Basically, working at home because of Covid, and being on the computer even after work, puts the wrist at an angle where it digs into the nerve. My office desk had a different wrist angle. It's the only thing that makes sense given the AW6 is virtually identical to the AW5 and it's not a problem on the right wrist.

Unfortunately, it's one of those problems that is very hard to get around.
 
So, I’ve been wearing Apple Watch for a few years, and I’ve noticed tenderness where the watch sits when it isn’t on my wrist. I noticed the “crystal“ portion sticks into my wrist a bit, and i wonder if this has caused my wrist to weaken slightly; causing lower blood flow which contributes to a lot of what’s talked about on this form. Cell-wave length antenna Radiation can cause low levels of tissue damage over long stretches of time, so it is possible this amplifies the effect. All that being said: having a radiation emitting device attached to your person probably isn’t the best idea; however, antennas are much lower powered than in generations previous, we have modern safety regulations on the amount of radiation a device can emit, and generally these devices are tested for long term use under normal conditions.
 
I set my watch about 10 minutes fast so the pain doesn't start for few minutes...
 
The reason people are telling you to go see a doctor is because you may indeed have a latent issue. For example, if you have carpal tunnel or other RSI, the watch may be exacerbating something that is there. If you take it off and it goes away, that's great — but it might worsen to the point where you get pain even without the watch.

There are countless stories of people who suffer from wrist pain only at certain angles at first, or sporadically, and a steady worsening after continued computer use to the point where it's too painful to even work at their computer now.

In other words, finding out the underlying cause and taking steps now to address it might save you from significant pain later. At least in my case, I wouldn't trust myself to self-diagnose it. I might postpone it due to COVID for a few months, but not for too much longer than that.

(The other most likely cause, as others have noted, is an allergic reaction—either to the nickel in the watch, which while uncommon is not that uncommon in the public, or in the watch band. That is less concerning, although it might impact your ability to wear Apple Watches and/or the preferred bands. Search for "watch nickel allergy" and you'll see tons of hits.)

I’ve your issue. I’ve been wearing the cellular version of the series 4 for about a year. I started noticing some pain between my wrist and my knuckles. Took the watch off in about 30 minutes the pain was gone. Put it back on and in about 10 minutes it started to hurt again. I don’t wear my watch tight So I’m pretty sure that’s not the problem. I actually don’t really know what the problem is. But I will say that the watch exacerbates the pain. I take it off, the pain goes away. I put it back on, and my wrist begins to hurt.
 
Well I have never experienced any wrist pain in my entire life until I strapped on the Series 4 a few years back. Within 10-15 minutes I also had a very dull stabbing like pain between the watch and my hand, almost like a muscle spasm. Tried the other wrist, not wearing it for a day but no dice, pain still kept coming back. Sometimes took a while to subside after the watch was removed.

Fast forward to the Series 6 and I have no such issues, should also note that my series 3 never caused this issue in well over a year of constant use. The series 6 is cellular but not activated yet, series 4 was not cellular, just wifi.

My conclusion is that unless they changed the glass back design/material then it is down to the sensors inside or maybe the wireless radiation, puzzled me at the time and still now.

I went the other way, no problems with the 4 but couldn't handle the 6.

I changed the band and like magic, the watch was wearable again.
