Wrist size ?, 38 or 42

I can't be the only one thinking the 42mm would look ridiculous on some (even a male's ) wrists?

Take this as an example:

But then the 38mm can look a little small:

Just depends on your wrist size. There's no right or wrong nor male or female size, just what works for you.

Personally, I'm going to try both on before preordering. At 185mm, I think I could probably wear either. Leaning towards 38mm at the moment.

The 42mm doesn't look ridiculous at all in that photo.

The top picture (Milanese loop) looks awful. Really bad. It's completely put me off the Milanese loop. And the 42mm looks far too big.

The bottom picture looks better, but the watch does look too small.

Great examples.

the 42mm looks ridiculous in that top picture. The person either has godzilla wrist or the angle makes the bottom look super tiny.

38 or 42--wrist size

I think it would very useful for everyone to post their wrist size, especially with any pictures. I have a 175mm wrist, so I'm looking for input from people who have a similar sized wrist.

I think I can help you here.

My wrists is about the same size as yours and I'm definitely getting the 42mm. Or maybe the 38mm. I can't decide.

Hope that helps.

Don't let me put you off! I think the Milanese loop can look very classy:

That would definitely be the model I'd go for if I could afford it.

Equally, the 42mm can look very reasonable:

It really just depends on your wrist size.

Size aside, my biggest worry is having a strap which is two pieces - I've only ever owned three watches: a Timex with a velcro loop, and two stainless steel Casios with link bracelets. With a Sport band, I think I'll miss the convenience of a enclosed loop, but unfortunately the Milanese/link are way out of my budget at the moment. The look of the white Sport band, once on, is one I quite like though, especially with the stainless steel.

Agh. I'm going round in circles on the model I'd like - maybe it's easier just not to buy one! :p

I managed to get a dedicated 15 minutes with my wife helping me choose (no mean feat considering she's fed up of me banging on about this), and she says that the 38mm is definitely too small for me (my wrists are 174mm) - and yes, she did say it looked feminine. The 42mm she says does look large, but not in a bad way and does suit me. So who am I to complain, looks like 42mm it is!

I've spent the last 30 mins wearing cut-outs of both sizes mounted on 1cm thick of cardboard and I got very used to the 42mm quite quickly. It is a bit larger than I'm used to but I started to quite like it.

Here are them both on my wrists:

I'm a teenage male with ~165-170mm wrists and I'm torn between the 38mm and 42mm as well. I think I'm just going to pre-order both at 3am, and then try them on when I get home from school, and cancel the one that doesn't fit. I'd go earlier to try and avoid having to reserve both, but the Apple Store is a bit of a drive and I can't go before school. I've seen the sizes in the Apple Store app, and I think the 42mm would fit, but it'd take up pretty much my entire wrist, as my wrist is around 45-46mm tall. Anyone else in the same situation?

Ha! :D

Seriously though, I think your response *does* help because it shows that for most of us in that size range, if you have a hard time deciding, it probably doesn't really matter. I know I waffle between those two, and now probably getting the 42mm but I'd be happy with the 38mm also.

I personally think the 42mm looks too large on your wrist. I am not trying to be offensive but almost comically large. The 38mm looks more proportioned.

Edit--pinksteady, i think I saw you in the other thread. your wife convinced you to get the 42mm but I think the 38mm is the way to go!

Not offensive don't worry! My wife could tell instantly, when looking in person, that I should go with 42mm. She was "100%" convinced, which is good enough for me - she knows far better than I do ;)

Doesn't mean it would be right for you of course, we all have different tastes. Personally I hope 42mm will be ok for me, it is hard to tell until I actually try it on.

so my wrist is 216 mm so do i take 216-42= 174 is that my band size (174mm)

No! I honestly have no idea where people are getting this from!

As I have stated in other threads, one of which you actually quoted, take the sports band for example, the S/M one for the 38mm watch. In apples exact words it says 'fits wrists 130-180mm' and this is in the section listed 'wrist circumference'. By your logic, if my wrist is 130mm, I then have to deduct 38mm leaving me with 92mm. There is no 92mm band as that's extremely small. Apple have clearly stated which bands will fit which wrist sizes. There is no deducting case sizes from this.

Why would they say 'Fits wrists 130-180mm' if it actually fits wrists 92mm-142mm?

At 216mm, your band choices will be limited, unfortunately.

My wrists are 170mm and my wife was one of the people who said the exact same thing - 42mm looks good, 38mm looks too "feminine". I asked what about on her, since she has the same sized wrists. She said "oh, I'd get the 38mm, since that size of watch on *my* wrist is more appropriate!" :)

I was on the fence - but the more I look at it, the 42mm is likely what I will get. I'm getting older, and my near eyesight is getting worse so I figure I will need to reduce eyestrain.

male, same wrist size as you, and I am getting the 38mm. I like my watches to be on the smaller side.

this is actually comical.

doesn't look too small to me....it actually looks much more fashionable.

This guy on the photo doesn't even know the right place to wear the watch... The strap goes before the end of your arm bone not after like a womans bracelet jewelry and because in a watch when you move your hand/wrist (upwards) the watch crown hits your hand

And 42mm. Disclaimer. 42mm looks larger in picture than in real life :)
