I do have a small ganglion cyst on my left wrist (bottom side) that seems to have been significantly more irritated since I got the Ultra. Trying a sport band to see if it helps.

Update I decided to return for a SS Series 7, never had an issue with my previous 44/45 models. I found the size of the Ultra prevented me from wanting to wear it as often, regardless of the wrist pain.

I occasionally noticed some slight pain at first, but I don’t anymore or at least not as frequently. I think my wrist had just gotten used to a different size Watch.

I had something similar happen when I bought the aw7

Turns out it was a carpal tunnel flare up and I didn’t realize it as I’ve never had one before

If op has worn Apple Watches for a while without issue, and is in his 30-40s and works a desk Job, Chances are it’s carpal tunnel too

My ultra does not bother my wrist but I wear it above my wrist bone

I was gonna start a new thread, but, hey what's a bit of necromancy amongst friends.

Anyways, I have this problem. Basically, the watch hits a nerve where the sensor bulge protudes on my wrist. I've tried different bands too. It didn't seem to happen on the Aluminum watches I had but it was brutal on the SS. The Ultra is better than the SS, but it's worn me down too.

I keep hoping some of the promised redesigns would come true and the sensor bulge would go away. It's the best smart watch that I've owned and I hate to have to give it up. I guess I could go John Wick and wear it backward 90% of the time but the sensors don't work as well that way..

Oh well!

A lot depends where the nerve endings in your wrist are. For me the gentle sphere of the Ultra is better than the smaller but slightly abrupt treatment on some Garmin watches; the most comfortable of all I've used in any watch -- at least from the watch point of view (the less said about the strap the better) is the Garmin Vivoactive 3, but the backside of that is so flat I think it impairs the function of the heart sensor. Least comfortable was probably the Garmin Vivoactive 2, with a small, angular, protruding heart sensor. Somewhere in between, rather like the Ultra, traditional mechanical watches and my Swatch watch, but all of these beat any of the Garmins for their straps, at least if we're talking the cloth or metal ones.

Obviously as with all smart watches, wear it snugly and above the wrist bone.

I opted for the trail loop as there's a bit more "give" and adjustability than with the Alpine and a better fit around the top and sides of my somewhat skinny wrists than the Ocean.

One other consideration; the Ultra straps really are very wide. I like that, but I could see it might affect some other people differently.

Anyone getting wrist soreness from the AW Ultra? Kind of weird as I have had a AW since the very beginning, and had the SS, so the heaviest one to this point. Will the wrist just get use to it over time?
I’ve had the issue. I think the weight and size of the watch and shape of the rounded sensor in the back presses on the wrist which causes slight pain after a while. I was able to get rid of it completely by using a Watch case from amazon. It must just distribute the weight and pressure better. See pictures. The last photo makes it look bigger than it is…just a wide angle lens effect.

Is it from the weight or are you having pulsing sensations or skin issues under the watch? My daughter really wanted the Apple Watch but couldn’t wear it. She tried it for almost a week. It would give her a burning sensation and leave a red mark on her skin under the watch. She tried multiple different bands and kept it super clean. I told her to try wearing the watch for a day but off. She had no issues with it turned off. Ended up returning it. ☹😢

One other consideration is sleeping with the watch on. My Ultra is fine and largely not noticeable if I'm sleeping on my back or side, not so good if sleeping on my front, where my hand is more likely to fall back-side up, and the thick watch is propping it up uncomfortably in the air.

Regarding the last couple of posts.

No burning or pulsing.

It does seem to be worse at night when I sleep. In fact, I should remove the word “seem”, it’s definite. I can’t sleep on my stomach, I generally sleep on my right side.

I picked up one of the new Garmin Epix Pro’s and I’m having the same problem with it. The Garmin is having fit issues though, it’s either a tiny bit too tight or a tiny bit too loose. It’s a 51MM version. I’ve never had this issue with a Garmin before.
