Good news, but I wonder if it is standard policy or if they made an exception.

Apple made an exception here. This isn't something they would likely do regularly. But being the Watch was in new condition, they allowed the exchange.

I Would agree with this. I think every store will have a different situation based on the manager. I have returned items in the past to other stores where one store one would not accept the return, but the other store I tried gladly accepted the return. It really varies based on the willingness of the staff members and manager.

Like I said it was the kindness of the manager and they could have just as well told you to get lost.
