With everything going on right now and people being a lot more careful with their money, Apple really needs to do right by its consumers. They release a 1200-1500$ phone I feel that sales will be extremely low for them as I think people will be doing a lot more restricting on what they spend money on.

Who really needs a new phone every year anyway.

They are really going to have something special for me to upgrade, and I'm a diehard purchaser every single year. My main reason last year was because of the crappy low light performance of last generation iphone's cameras, but I'm very much satisfied with my 11 max. I'm also waiting for a paradigm shift, hopefully foldable screens are that paradigm shift.

With highest ever unemployment (and rising) and an economy fallIng into depression - and CoV infections continuing to march forever upwards- how relevant is a super fancy (unnecessary) electronic "toy" when the future looks so grim?

My guess: The 2020 iPhone SE will be their savior. The 12 series- a flop

another take...how necessary will a super fancy pocket computer be when the only employment left is the self-employed kind, peddling your advice via a YouTube channel, using your 12 as your entire recording and editing apparatus, and slowly gaining a foothold until you realize you have a career that has taken care of you and your next generation in ten short years... these devices can do a lot for $399. It’s how you use them that makes all the difference.

why does the camera bump bother anyone? who walks around with a $1000+ phone and no case? I just want the flat glass screen like the old days so a screen protector doesn't look noticeable

All four models are expected to feature OLED displays, flatter edges like recent iPad Pro models, and a smaller notch. High-end models are also expected to feature a LiDAR sensor.

Where are the rumors that purportedly corroborate that ALL four modes will feature flatter edge design? Because the closer we get to September, the more I doubt this claim. Schematics and leaked CAD files all seem to point to just Pro models.

Hopefully the iPhone 12 Pro is worth the wait. 5G ( mm wave) is not readily available in most places. If iOS 14 has enough bells and whistles it will be
Another key factor is will the Apple stores be open??? You would be surprised how many walk in sales take place

These rumours come up every bloody year! Maybe now with COVID they might actually be correct otherwise why bother. Its every year!
Yor are so correct in that Apple comes out with new phones every year. What's your point? Don't buy a new one until you're ready. Easy peasy

5G has my eye, but being a long time Verizon user, who seems to be concentrating on mm 5G, and living in the suburbs, I wonder If 5G will even be available to me.
Eventually, 5G will be in your area OR you will be somewhere that does have it and it will kick in and you will be blown away at the speed. Oh, as a bonus, you will NOT get Covid-19 as some in London say. 🤣

I'll wait for an iPhone not made in China.
That's going to be quite a wait!

My point was about the rumour and the fact that we get rumours about delays every YEAR! And it pretty much never happens so these click bates become useless.
Maybe this year we will see delay but other than that in the past it was pretty much always september reveal, sept/oct launch. With few exceptions.
But delay rumours were every year. Go figure :)

I don't use a case. The phone is in my shirt pocket, on the desk, on its charger or sitting in a dock in the car. So it doesn't need scratch protection.

The camera bump annoys me because the phone doesn't lie flat on a table.

Jony gave us the butterfly keyboard under his watch, so frankly his usefulness was up. An entire generation of MacBooks scorned because of hubris.
If Apple manages to pull a “2020 iPad Pro” with their iPhone 12 it’s really not going to go well. What I mean by that is, if the iPhone THIRTEEN is going the be the actually innovative iPhone, I and so many others will wait them out again, especially during the pandemic. I’ve been a holdout since the 8, waiting for them to get it right.

Jony also gave us AirPods. But focus only on the bad stuff I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There will be plenty of buy one get one deals when these come out in sept/oct. the way this year is going the carriers know they have to do this to keep their customers around. Not many people updating and they need to keep them on their plans. I’ll gladly take two brand new phones on a buy one get one deal with a family member.
I have no reason to upgrade my xs max lets be honest phones aren’t progressive like they where pre 2017.

And I'm still waiting for almost all cars to be able to get 100 miles per gallon.

Sure profits before customers. /s

Obviously these are rumors and based on the rumors I am interested. Iphone 12 pro (or iphone 11s pro) ... I can probably get a good trade-in with my xs max.
Right but Telsa stops at 250 miles, my gas guzzler gets more than that on a tank and refuels in 2 minutes. The point is limitation of technology.

The only fallout seems to be a vocal minority here on MR. Other than that by all objective indications, the path Apple has taken is successful.

No notch is not going happen. Flush camera is not going to happen. USB-C, that rumor is up for grabs. But that EU directive is still pending. 120hz refresh should happen, but who knows.
[/QUOTE]

Hey. I like your points, I'd like to point out however that Tesla is owning the automotive industry. Gas guzzlers are so passe now, what Tesla is to ICE manufacturers is what Apple was to Blackberry.

Maybe the 12 pro will take longer due to rumoured Touch ID and 120hz is harder production wise who knows.

A month delay is not too bad under the circumstances the world is facing. With that being said, it will be interesting to see if they do unveil 4 phones and whether they all have 5G or not. Maybe with having 4 phones they won't have a ton of people waiting to get their device (like in the past where shipping dates usually slip 2-3 weeks shortly after preorders open.
