Just recently I had 3 iPads until the Target trade-in program came along. I feel so relieved with just 1 iPad now. You can have some good fun with multiple iPads but I just got tired of all the syncing and updating of all 3. Plus backing up SHSH'S and all that. One 128GB of any model is enough for me.
To each is own though. :)

Yes, it's a tech geeks dream... bring home two devices the same day.

Seriously, why are you surprised (WTF?! notation). People use to have a couple computers at home (desktop + laptop), now they have a couple iPads.

Hey… and a few years ago, it was the trend for the average GEEK to have two desktop computers, one is a Mac, the other is his gaming PC. Remember those guys?

Yes, all the synching and twice-a-week recharging of 3 devices would get old quick.

I struggled briefly with which one to get, but settled on a splendid new 15" rmbp and a mini. A quite brilliant combo for me - the limitations of the iPad, ram/OS etc, only bother me at home, where I mainly use a laptop. On the go, the mini is a delight and slips into my coat pocket.

Personally, I've simply no usage case for a larger tablet these days, but everyone's different, choice is good.

Besides, I find having two iPad a chore. Had a 3 and old mini for a year plus, and syncing/updating two is mildly annoying.

In my case, I was hoping to get a balanced display. Since the Air is over saturated and the Mini is undersaturated, buying both solved my problem!

The Air is at something like 105% sRGB while the rMini is at around 60% sRGB. 100% is considered ideal. At 105% sRGB I wouldn't exactly call the Air "over-saturated". If you prefer an under-saturated screen, well then that's a different story. If you want to see a truly over-saturated screen, go take a look at the moto x.

Wow! I see all these people buying both Air and rMinis dayum! The Apple made it so hard to choose people are choosing both.

It's funny you mentioned this. I had been waiting for the Mini Retina pretty much since the first one came out but I ended up getting the Air instead. Maybe some people were getting them for gifts? I kind of still want to get a Mini. Apple is like a drug to me...lol

Those folks buying both iPads probably also have both a desktop and laptop at home. These devices are not PC replacements. Certainly the mini isn't.

That is how I feel. I am trying to force myself to return the mini or the Air. I like the Air because of the big screen but I like the mini because of the small foot print.

I have both an Air and Mini and the colors looks almost identical - the difference is that the iPad Air has a brighter screen.

My rMini looks more bright white to me than my air. The colors are definitely more washed out than the Air...grrrrr decisions decisions...Im starting to think I should return my iPad Air.

You know apple did this on purpose, right?

I actually wouldn't be surprised. I bought both "just in case" I want a smaller version of the big one sometimes. Two 128GB iPads with T-Mobile. Two different sizes. I'm happy.

I may just need to live with it but dayum....

Im starting to think Apple did this on purpose to artificially inflate the sales numbers. Lmao! Marketing.

Many undecided customers may be willing to try both, and return what they dislike after a few days.

So far so good, but what about the knuckleheads that buy both for themselves because they can afford it and it makes them feel better? I wonder how many of them there are!

I hope there are a lot of those....more units sold, more money for R&D

If one uses the iPad just for browsing or film watching or other colour non-critical work, they shouldn't care about the lesser colour gamut on the mini.

For color critical work, it's worth noting that you'll also want to use a photo app that supports color calibration with a colorimeter. There should be no expectation that iPad displays come properly calibrated from the factory, regardless of model, as we've witnessed at our office. There's variation from unit to unit.

The problem for me is that the way Ive used tablets is more complimentary than replacement. I see the bigger iPad as more replacement. I realize Apple is really trying to make the case for a full size tablet... Dayum you Apple.

I was planning on buying both. My wife likes the full size ipad for web browsing and I like the mini for reading books and gaming. The last full size ipad I had was the 2 that my wife uses now. The first mini weighed half what the iPad 2 weighed. I'm hoping the Air is light enough to hold for an extended period so that I only have to buy the Air.

The mini is not, agreed. But I use my iPad for 85% of what I use to use my laptop for. The only things I use my laptop for now are writing briefs and such and also, personally, editing videos and cataloging photos. But email, short notes, quick photo fixes, recording conversations (w/ other party's knowledge), dictation I either do w/ my iPhone or iPad now.

If I have to travel for less than a couple days I only bring my iPad, not MBP. For what most people do with their computer iPads are actually quickly becoming PC replacements. Aside from my Mac Mini which is a dedicated music server, the only actual computer I now have is my MBP. For a decade or more I had two laptops and a PM/MP.

It is. However the mini makes for a better eReader imo.
