If you starting switching tones, you are resetting it. Thus, FOR A LITTLE WHILE, the tones will work. But just wait and see and let us know.

Wtf SMS alerts still working on and off.

I had the moody SMS alert problems before, and now after the update. Ive used several different tones, which I shouldnt have to do ANYWAY. The one I have the most issues with is the "horn," but its the only one I can hear 🙁
I shouldnt have to pay $300 for a phone and not be able to use the sound I want/and or have to reset 12 times a day.

i also had to change tones for 3rd time today, because one of them stopped working.
but for the last time how can we know if its hardware or software?
how come some people have this problems and others don't or at least maybe they don't text enough with their alert sound on
also my friend has the 1st gen iphone and as soon as he updated to 2.0 firmware these problems started happening or at least thats what he said.
i on the other hand have a 3g phone so idk if all of you with the problem have 3g phones.

Im having issues with this as well. I used the "HORN" alert. Now after 2.0.2 it doesn't work anymore. The rest of the alerts work though.
^ horn doesn't work at all? or it just stops working eventually.

yea, but he may just not have heard it at times, so im not sure if he really thinks it doesn't go off.

I actually thought I had this problem too until I realised that the problem was that I was getting a message, leaving it open, then when another one came through from the same person, it didn't alert, as it was part of the same thread. Well, it did alert, but just with the swish type noise which is very quiet. Once I started closing messages (going back to the inbox) after reading them, I didn't have this problem.
How hard is it? Can you fix it?
I'm certain that they are working on it. Software development and testing takes time. This should've been caught before 2.0 was ever released, but it wasn't. It's a big deal for me also as I rely on SMS for business purposes. But give them some time to sort it out.
I raised a bug report on this with apple on the 15th of July, Apple haven't commented on it and its still listed as Open.
Either they know about the issue and don't care about my bug report (maybe its already fixed in 2.1) or they just have a lot on right now... 😛
I havent had the chance to upgrade to 2.0.2 yet but it certainly still occurs for me in 2.0.1

My SMS sound hasn't worked at all since the 2.0.2 update. I went through and turned all sounds off and all back on then did a restart. I'll let everyone know if that does anything. Also, after 2.0.2 the lock/unlock sounds didn't work.
It was working up until 2.0.2. However, now it only works when I check it in the list. However, when I get an SMS, it doesnt work. The other sounds do work though for SMS alerts.
After my restart sounds are being made when an SMS comes in. We will see how long this "fix" lasts. The phone had stopped giving an SMS alert sound after the 2.0.2 update.

I've had 2 3G's and had the problem all along. My buddy has a 1st gen and since 2.0 came out, same ****. No fix yet.

I have the iPhone 2G and NEVER had a problem until the 2.0 software. I just missed an important text this afternoon and basically thus missed a meeting because of no sound!
Also interesting.... I use my iPhone as my alarm clock, and have done so every day since I bought it on release day in June, 2007. One day this week, the alarm failed to make a sound. The alarm worked, per se, because when I turned on the phone it was displaying the snooze button, but there was simply no sound. I strongly suspect this is the same bug--the phone is in some kind of power save mode that is turning off alert sounds. My push email alerts are totally intermittent as well, so maybe it's all related.
Thank goodness for my cat, who realized I was oversleeping and licked my face to wake me up. He's a lot more reliable than my iPhone at this point!

^ see i only notice that my sms alerts dont go off. from what i hear my email works, even though i dont' get that many emails i usually always hear it.
