I just gotta new Vista 64-Bit laptop and I connect my iPhone and I can't do anything.

I know this doesn't help you, but you should have done more research before buying Vista 64-bit. There's A LOT of hardwar(and I mean a LOT of current hardware) that's not compatible with Vista 64 - the iPhone is hardly the only thing. If you want to stick with Windows, I'd recommend reinstalling with Vista 32-bit - not just for the iPhone but also for all the other problems you're bound to have with V64.

64-bit sucks, i had it on my vista machine and nothing worked. not even Microsoft hardware.:mad: So im back to 32-bit.
first off thats a lie. if nothing worked ur comp wouldn't boot. second, i wasn't aware that microsoft made hardware except keyboards and mice (and crappy xboxs). I personally am running a 64 bit version of VISTA and love it. All my games and apps run perfectly and 64 bit versions of all my drivers are also out. The first problem i have had with 64 bit is the iphone/ ipod touch incompatibility.
I really wish APPLE would just make a driver. Once they get started on it should only take them a couple of days.

Vista x64 bit drivers work as of iTunes 7.6

I just noticed that iTunes 7.6 now has Vista 64 bit (and I assume XP 64 bit) drivers that work with the iphone.

Well bottom line, there are few options - the AMD Turion X2 is their new Dual Core 64 bit processor. And you have to run a 64 bit OS. No questions asked. I am not totally sure VirtualPC 2007 from Microstalin will work as its 32 bit, but it's your best shot. Now I am no expert, but here is how I understand it, to clear up the details:

64 bit is NOT "good" for 4GB RAM - 32 bit can get there too. The 64 bit versions of Vista actually support up to 8GB (Basic), 16GB (Home Premium) and 128+GB RAM (Ultimate). There IS an issue with getting the full 4GB of RAM in Vista, but its actually a preexisting limitation in Windows that has been there since v.2000; it's just that now there is hardware/software that requires more memory, it's cheaper to buy RAM, etc, that we're hitting the limits of a 32 bit system in Vista (or XP, or 200, etc...).

The actual memory on a 32 bit Vista machine equals the installed amount minus your sound and graphics (and dare I say physics) card(s). If you have say a Nvidia whatever with 512MB memory, and 4GB RAM on the mobo, you'll see about 3.5GB of RAM to the system - more than enough for most users. Also, its more secure than 32 bit versions as it randomly loads the system files in a different location each boot.

You might bump into a few issues with drivers, as most (all?) preexisting peripherals like printers and scanners are 32 bit, and there are no 64 bit drivers for them. Internal drivers for graphics cards are less an issue and easily updated. All said and done, I run a homebuilt Vista machine too (mainly to remind me how much I like my Mac haha (really for modding/whatever...seriously, I'm on them for work...) so I'm not bashing anything; just trying to help. Don't take my word as gospel as I work little on 64 bit machines. BTW, go find yourself a copy of Crysis (a game, if you have the graphics memory for it) and see how good that processor is. Most software cannot take advantage of the 64 bit proc, but as more Direct X 10 games come out and what not, it'll kick ass.

g/l

EDIT: Guess I can check myself... I see another post 7.6 supports 64 bit procs - now go get that iPhone!!! ;-)

Hp just upgraded my 1Gb Ram turion x2 laptop to a 4GB Ram 2.20 Core 2 Duo w/ vista 64-Bit for free. I heard that 64-Bit is great for 4GB Ram.

The only really advanced programs I use are adobe products. I really don't want to downgrade just for the iPhone.

The computer recognizes the iPhone but iTunes doesn't recognize it. Are there any other programs that transfer songs to the iPhone?

Got the iPhone 3g, iTunes runs fine on Vista 64 and can sync everything.
The problem is although Vista directly can recognize the iPhone (shows as iPhone in device manager) it doesn't have any drivers for it so I can't see the camera role in "Computer"

Any ideas?

Is my only hope to just download them on my other computer which still has XP 32bit on it?

I had no problems with Vista until after SP1 and then my little flash drives and other USB stuff got weird. I tried screwing around in device manger and now my printer isn't being detected...

I have a feeling I will spend the day formatting my PC and reinstall Vista 64 (yeah, I still have XP but I like the DX10 for games). Hopefully a fresh install will get the USB back in working order
