so wait.. is it $199 with a contract or just $199 by itself?

it is $199 for a phone itself and $60/month for contract. I doubt that it will be less than that for a month contract. At&t sells other phones and make better profit from them, and if you will reduce monthly charge everyone will buy iphone and At&t will be forced to dance Apples term dance.

As for iphone I can afford it, but $60/ month is too much.

You can always cancel 3G to make it $40/month. Or at least you use to be able to cancel EDGE to make it $40/month.

The carriers won't go lower --- because of price arbitrage --- or else those iphones will just be bought for exports around the world.

* Based on 3G and EDGE testing. Actual speeds vary by site conditions. Based on iPhone 3G (8GB) and first-generation iPhone (8GB) purchases. Requires new 2-year AT&T rate plan, sold separately.

I think it might have always said that though

It says in the fine print on Apple's website "Requires new 2-year AT&T rate plan." So I'm not sure how that works, sounds like it could only be for new customers. I guess we will just have to wait for more details. Anyone figured anything out about preordering on the website?

Thkxs Apple for F@&king up on this one as well...

I'm just hoping it gets here really soon! :p

Well it seem like yet another iPhone I won't be getting. We can put a man on the moon, But we can't change our own battery on a iPhone. With today identity Theft problem on an up raise each and every day. I'm suppose to hand over an iPhone with my PERSONAL information to God know who, maybe a disgruntle employee. Trust that they will erase my personal information for me, with out taking a peek and maybe writing it down for his or her personal gain. Like we never seen this done before. It's only been done almost EVERY day in any given work environment. I'll just buy a phone that I can change out my own battery thanks Apple for F@&king up on this one as well...

What A Huge Disappointment!

Waiting all this time, all the hype and this is the best they can do?
up the speed, no memory upgrade, just plain poor.
no wonder the stock is taking a dive as we speak!
UGH!
