The name "Spaces" kinda sucks. Oh well, it'll probably have to grow on me like the name "MacBook" did.

I don't suppose it's that bad.. it's kinda like "pages" and ermm.. "numbers" if that rumor is true

Here's the deal...

I know people are bummed about the lack of a major unexpected new product release, but here's the deal...

Apple *can't* announce major products in a predictable fashion. That causes a *lot* of speculation (quick buy and dump) of their stock. Their bottom line is much more important than providing people something big when they expect it. They need to even out the fiscal year...even the quarter. I would just get used to the fact that the less predictable they are about product releases the healthier Apple is probably doing as a company.

ya, it remindes me of microsoft's blog/profile service called spaces also.:(

 Even OS 9 was better than Vista... okay well maybe not, but still. Microsoft keeps slashing features from Vista and pushing the release date. Byt the time it is actually realeased, it will probably be just another XP service pack. ;)
I kinda have mixed feeling about OSX, windows does have slower pace pushing new system, but that also save user money, and OSX ask for update every 1 or 2 year.... I guess Im just too cheap, lol

I don't like the name Spaces because it makes me think of MSN Spaces or whatever it's called. That MSN profile thing.

lol,
back up to an external hard drive.
require? no, allow? yes
back up your files
require? no, allow? yes
LOL, doesn't really help :)

I have no idea what you're trying to say. I was responding to the comment that "time machine would require internet connection to work." It won't require it to work, but if you would like to use one to back up to a server, you do have that option.

Closed captioning

QuickTime currently supports closed captioning by including a text track alongside audio and video content. But improved QuickTime support will automatically display the CEA-608 closed captioning text standard in analog broadcasts in the U.S.

Interesting. It's on the Leopard preview page. Now why would QT need that?

Enhanced Front Row to include TV anyone?

I think we have all been spoiled with the various OS X transitions. However, look at the history of OS X.

Jaguar was awesome. Really improved on the underpinnings of OS X. Added a ton of new features and programs. Things that were great at the time.

Next with Panther, it was a really nice polishing of Jaguar. It took many of the features in Jaguar and increased their "usability."

Tiger was amazing. Tons of new features, all sorts of neat gimmicks and technologies, but all of them had quite a few limitations and left us wanting more.

Leopard is taking over again in the polishing of Tiger. Apple is fixing Spotlight, improving on Mail, making Dashboard really slick, and a couple of new features, but nothing as revolutionary or neat as Spotlight.

Maybe the "top secret" stuff will be eye popping. I think Apple will be giving us a great feature set for developers and third-party manufacturers to run with. Core animation could potentially visualize everyday tasks into a more intuitive interface.

I really like the new iChat features. Not the background crap, but the collaboration with files, photos, presentations, etc... Apple is finally taking what Microsoft Netmeeting used to be and making it functional and good looking. Plus the screen sharing tool is kick-***.

Go ahead, fire away

also another hint of new ipods coming verysoon possibly? Apple has Refurb 30 gig videos for 200 bucks and free shipping also unless windows pulls something huge out of its hat with vista i think it be safe to say that Leopard is the king of the Next oses

As for TS stuff...wont developers see it?

And on iChat, I would have liked for them to give us more eye candy stuff like logitechs avatars that use eye/face tracking and superimpose things.

Like it was mentioned earlier, Jobs will be keeping the more revolutionary features close to his chest until release... It's only stuff that's not overly amazing right now to windows users so MS can't steal it!

Yea. I think paris is a great time for that.
Paris is on September 12th, and the free Nano deal is over september 16th, so i'm sure they are trying to get rid of old iPods. It will also be in time for back to school, and the holiday season. So September 12th will be a great day for it.

Time Machine sounds to me like a slick versioning/rollingback system. I
wouldn't call it a backup solution at all. Backing up to the same physical
drive is no backup. I wonder though how this thing will scale (i.e with 1000+
files).

Nice find. I know someone looking for a cheap 30 gig and they were just going to buy a used one. Thanks!

Umm... I don't even remember seeing that as an option. It's a backup solution, meant for backing up to an external drive or server. I don't think it allows you to simply backup to the same drive.

It doesn't back it up to the same drive, it backs up to an external drive..

oh of course it'll be better, but i was hoping for a new killer app or functionality :/ time machine is just backup w/ cool transition effects and spaces have existed on linux distros for quite some time now. there's really nothing new in leopard. i hope they add more stuff to it, cuz i'm not upgrading.

I don't think they said either way.

Will the keynote be available for download or just streaming? I know if I had QT Pro I could save it but I don't. Is there any other way to save a qt file? I am leaving work in 30 minutes and was hoping I could download the video here and take it home. I have dialup at home, so there is no way I could watch it there.
