I bet it will require 500mhz + g3... maybe higher.. I don't think it would run will at all with anything less than 512mb ram and 20gb hard drive

I think the minimum requirements will be a G4I think the minimum requirements will be a G4:eek:

I hope not, I still want to be able to upgrade my 500mhz iMac G3.

Wow, Steve really stuck it to the rumor sites this year.

Paris is like 6 weeks away PLUS he said plenty of stuff coming out (this week iirc?), so dont be suprised if updates, even core 2s, occur but no form factuor changes.

When will the bottom rung of the professional line, now the Mac Pro, come with more than 256 ram? It doesn't bother me too much, because its incredibly easy to upgrade, but, its a point that a lot of people are going to notice and complain about.

Wait, what? Have you not been to the store?

You can't get a Mac Pro with less than 1GB of RAM.

That is my big problem. Yes I like the idea, but I already use Backup to just image my hard drive every week.

I know I'm just one of the 4% of people he was talking about, but I almost think this will give people a false sense of security. It isn't really a "backup" system, it is more of a version tracking system with an anti-trash feature.
yeah, i understand, i always back up important files to a CD, after all, leopard is a software level update, can't solve the physical problem related to the hard drive.

Also I hope leopard will allow user to turn off time machine, if this stuff can secretly eat your diskspace for its backup files.

If you check out the store you will see that the least amount of ram you can get for the Mac Pro is 1GB of ram (2 x 512 MB).

Well, we can dream... Didn't count on the 2000$ version with BTO proc downgrade. Still, there seems to be a 500$ dollar premium on the Japanese one (I'm based in Tokyo) so I'm gonna stick with my plan and lay down the cash for an iMac tomorrow...

Anyone think I should wait a little longer for either a 15" MBP with FW800 or Conroe iMac?

Great. Go ahead and buy the iMac. And next tuesday Apple will announce a 1500$ mini Tower. :D

Ehm right now? It comes with 1GB RAM.

There was a slip up in the keynote - they initially said 256MB, but they were talking about the VRAM. It's 1GB of system memory.

They come with 1GB RAM, not 256!

Edit: I'm way too slow.

I don't think the question will be can you, it will be should you.

Imagine all those graphics intensive programs that they just showed. I'm not even sure a MacBook with the GMA graphics will be good enough.

I feel almost forced into getting something with a dedicated GPU now in preparation for Leopard.

I know it's killing me - there just seems to never be a right time to buy a computer!

I need to know where it actually backs up these files. Everyone knows you aren't supposed to back up on the same drive. Does this mean I need to carry around an external drive with my notebook for Time Machine to even be worth a crap
Actually if you check out Apple's Web site, it explains this. I beleive it backs up by default to your drive (dumb idea), but if you attach an external drive it will ask you if you want to do it to that. Plus it backs up at midnight unless you tell it otherwise. So I dont think it is backing up all the time. Just plug an external drive into your notebook at night and you are good to go.

Stardard config is 2x512.

There was a typo in the MacRumors live section.

The 256 is:
"Up to 256-bit wide memory architecture"

I believe you, but he's quoting the MacRumorsLive feed that posted (at 10:14am)
2.6 Ghz dual
256 MB ram
Superdrive
$2499
Don't chastize them too much, someone made a mistake. :)

Can't wait to replace my 2004 PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5 with a new Mac Pro. Drooling as I write.:D

I just watched the spaces demo, that looks sweet! I already have two planned out.

Yeah, that and time thingy for backups and a couple of other things are going to make me buy Leopard right away - probably 6 months away though.

I saw that on the feed and thought that couldn't be right. Then later I saw read the corrections and read the actual configurations at Apple's website. What a relief to see that base systems didn't come with only 256MB ram.

But it seems like the idea of Time Machine is "on-the-fly" updating/backing up, etc... Does it keep the last 5 versions I had of the file...that would be useful?

Also, if it is using the same drive to back things up, I would love to see how the file system and the index account for different versions scattered all across the disk, and imagine overwriting.....wow I'm getting freaked out and scared about a program that has been talked about for 30 minutes.

I just need to see how they actually implement it from the technical side of things before passing judgment.

It didn't take long for all those dreamers who were "certain" the MacBook Pro and iMacs were going to get bumped to Core 2 Duos to start looking at MacWorld Paris as the "inevitable" date of their release...

::sigh::

I totally agree. I can see someone putting Tiger on an old eMac and having their hard drive full in a few months. Also the security implications for this are somewhat staggering. Sure you can erase something with secure erase but now some enterprising hacker can just open up Time Machine and find it anyway. I think we all jsut have to wait to see how it is implemented.

Deep breath. :D

I'm sure they've got the "under the hood" stuff taken care of.

Apparently myself and Apple investors need to take a deep breath.

The market isn't as excited about WWDC as we were.

the new stuff in the next few weeks may well be a new ipod/phone as these sort of things are not really for a developers conference. We can hope.

Well done Macrumors for the excellent coverage!
